What We’re Listening to Wednesdays 22: THE FINALE

by Cheyenne Leitch

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final What We’re Listening To Wednesday. For weeks, we’ve been curating songs that capture moods, memories, and moments, and this last playlist feels like the perfect send-off. There’s nostalgia, there’s movement, there’s reflection, and above all, there’s music that means something to each of us. So, one last time, here’s what we’re listening to.

What Cheyenne’s Listening to

Track One – “ITALIA BREEZE” – Jon Bellion

We’re starting the finale with some lightness. Jon Bellion’s “ITALIA BREEZE” is full of warmth and optimism, the kind of track that feels like sunshine pouring in through an open window. It’s playful, easy, and unpretentious. A reminder that not every ending has to feel heavy. Sometimes, you just lean back, breathe deep, and let the breeze carry you forward.

Track Two – “Hearing Damage” – Thom Yorke

From warmth to shadows, Thom Yorke’s “Hearing Damage” is a sharp turn inward. The track is unsettling, eerie, and endlessly magnetic, the kind of song that lingers in the back of your head long after it’s stopped playing. For this final playlist, it serves as a reminder that not all journeys are linear, sometimes, we sit with the noise and learn from it.

Track Three – “Better” – Regina Spektor

No one writes hopeful melancholy like Regina Spektor. “Better” is delicate yet uplifting, balancing vulnerability with resilience. It’s a track about searching for something brighter, even when the path isn’t clear. As this series comes to a close, it feels fitting, the bittersweet optimism of moving forward while looking back.

Track Four – “Winter” – Daughter

Daughter’s “Winter” is a masterclass in atmosphere. Stark, cold, and quietly devastating, it captures the stillness of an ending and the inevitability of change. It’s a perfect closer for my section, a track that acknowledges endings while leaving space for whatever comes next.

Track Five – “When We Drive” – Death Cab For Cutie

There’s something cinematic about ending this series with Death Cab. “When We Drive” is soft and slow-burning, capturing intimacy in motion. It’s about being in the moment, suspended between destinations, and it mirrors how What We’re Listening To Wednesday has always felt; like snapshots of a journey rather than the whole story.

Track Six – “King of the Rodeo” – Kings of Leon

This one injects some grit into the mix. Kings of Leon’s “King of the Rodeo” is swaggering and restless, a reminder that endings don’t have to be tidy. There’s freedom in chaos, and sometimes the best way to close a chapter is with a burst of messy, unfiltered energy.

Track Seven – “Julien” – Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Julien” is shimmering, nostalgic pop at its finest. It’s a song about holding on to someone — or something — that’s already passed, which feels like a fitting sentiment for our last playlist. It’s upbeat, danceable, but threaded with longing, much like the mood of saying goodbye.

What Laneisha’s Listening to

Track Eight – “Stronger” – blossom

Blossom’s “Stronger” is a declaration of resilience. It’s powerful and affirming, a song about finding strength in the aftermath of difficulty. For the finale, it sets the tone that while this series might be ending, the music keeps going and so do we.

Track Nine – “Touch” – Hybrid Minds, Catching Cairo

We close the final WWLTW with “Touch,” a track that’s tender yet expansive. It’s all about connection, presence, and the way music binds us together. As curtain calls go, this one feels perfect: soft, human, and resonant.

Twenty-two playlists later, we’ve reached the end of this little experiment. Thank you for listening along with us each week, for sharing in the highs, the lows, and all the in-betweens. It’s the end of What We’re Listening To Wednesday, but never the end of the music.
