Ever since her breakout hit, “Call Me Maybe,” Carly Rae Jepsen has been one of pop music’s most precious gems. On each new project, the singer explores new sonic territory giving fans something fresh and exciting. Over the years, Jepsen earned the reputation for being the queen of B-sides. In 2023 dropped The Loveliest Time, the B-side to 2022’s The Loneliest Time. Both projects were critically acclaimed and took the singer on a massive world tour.
After teasing on social media what fans concluded were song lyrics, the wait for new music is finally over. Jepsen is getting ready to release not one but two albums this fall.
Two Is Better Than One
Day and Night is the brand new double album from Carly Rae Jepsen coming September 19th. Instead of making fans wait for her signature B-side release, she’s decided to drop both projects at the same time. The singer describes Day as “more open-eyed, organic and earthbound” where Night is “more escapist and even intense at times.” According to insiders, Day will consist of more psychedelic and soft rock sounds. Night is reported to heavily include soft pop and synths.
Over the course of her career, Jepsen has indulged in sounds from across the board. Her debut album, Emotion, heavily played with a more alternative pop and dance sound. Many music critics to this day claim it is one of the best pop albums of the 2010s. In 2019, Jepsen teamed up with producer Jack Antonoff for Dedicated. This project was heavily inspired by Disco. Her last two projects, The Loveliest Time and The Loneliest Time fused pop. soft, rock, disco and various sounds in a fresh new way.
A double album means double the fun. Jepsen has always wanted to explore two distinct musical worlds on one project. The time has finally come for her to do so. Day and Night chronicles an exciting time in the singer’s life. Recently, Jepson welcomed her first born with her husband and collaborator Cole M.G.N. The two were married shortly before the pregnancy announcement. As a newly wed and a new mother, fans are eager to hear how the music encapsulates an exciting time in the singer’s life.
Last week, Jepsen gave fans a first taste of what’s to come.
Wired Up
“On Wires” is the first official single from Jepsen’s new album. Coming from Day, “On Wires” marks a new sonic direction. Playful keys open the track building tension that leads to an explosive, anthemic chorus. Sonically, the track carries a heavy psychedelic influence. Fans have begun comparing “On Wires” to “Kollage,” a track on her previous album The Loveliest Time. The production is crisp. Jepsen’s vocals float about the dramatic instrumentation. Talk about a way to begin an album rollout.
Jepsen has set the stage for the first half of her double release. Fans are hoping that the next single comes from Night. This is an exciting time to be a Carly Rae Jepsen fan as she is gearing up to release two sonic worlds at the same time.
