Timeless Tuesday 019: Unconditional Love and Timeless Swag

Welcome back to Timeless Tuesday, where every week we dive into the sounds that stay stuck in our heads—and our hearts—long after the final note fades. This week’s playlist blends soul, R&B, funk, disco, folk, and electronic classics that remind us why great music never goes out of style. We will explore records from Guy, Selena, Daft Punk, Joni Mitchell and more.

In this episode, we will celebrate timeless grooves and universal emotions.

Let’s get started.

My Selections:

“I Like” – Guy

When you need a groove to carry you through the day, “I Like” by Guy delivers. This late-’80s classic helped define the New Jack Swing movement—bridging R&B’s smoothness with hip-hop’s edge. The funk-soaked rhythm and confident swagger make this a standout. The influence of Guy’s style runs deep, inspiring artists then and now. Simply put, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This one still slaps.

“U Know What’s Up” – Donell Jones ft. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes

This track stays on loop for a reason. Donell Jones brings velvet-smooth vocals, while Left Eye injects charisma and sharp lyricism. The chemistry works effortlessly. “U Know What’s Up” feels like a confident, sexy conversation—and you can’t help but vibe with it.

“Saturday Love” – Cherrelle & Alexander O’Neal

The disco-tinged energy of “Saturday Love” never fades. This duet radiates feel-good vibes, as Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neal harmonize their way through longing and romance. Despite the title, it’s clear their love lasts all week.

Cheyenne’s Selections:

“No Diggity” – Blackstreet

Cheyenne kicks off her set with this undeniable banger. “No Diggity” opens with Dr. Dre’s unforgettable intro, paving the way for Blackstreet to shine once again. They’ve made previous appearances on Timeless Tuesday—and rightfully so. If this track isn’t already in your rotation, it needs to be. It’s smooth, confident, and always a crowd-pleaser.

“So Into You” – Tamia

Cheyenne’s second pick might be the ultimate R&B slow jam. “So Into You” showcases Tamia’s delicate vocal strength and heartfelt delivery. Though sampled by artists like Baby Bash, Tamia’s original version hits differently. It’s emotional, intimate, and unforgettable.

“Around the World” – Daft Punk

This week, Daft Punk finally enters the Timeless Tuesday universe. With “Around the World,” they take a simple phrase and loop it into something hypnotic and futuristic. The robotic vocals, steady beat, and clean production prove that when the groove is right, less really is more.

Nathan’s Selections:

“Nada Personal” – Soda Stereo

Nathan takes us to Argentina with his pick, “Nada Personal.” This ’80s gem from Soda Stereo fuses new wave, rock, pop, and electronic elements into something fresh yet nostalgic. The band captures the universal feeling of parting ways, all while staying cool and catchy. We’re obsessed all over again.

“Dreaming of You” – Selena

Selena Quintanilla remains one of the most influential figures in Latin music. “Dreaming of You” was released posthumously and became the best-selling Latin album of all time. This track captures her gentle voice and deep emotional reach. It’s a soft, beautiful moment that reminds us of her legacy and brilliance.

“A Case of You” – Joni Mitchell

To close, Nathan brings us home with a poetic masterpiece. “A Case of You” highlights Joni Mitchell’s incredible songwriting and tender voice. With just a guitar and her words, she paints a picture of love, loss, and quiet endurance. It’s intimate, lyrical, and hits deep for anyone who’s loved hard—even when it hurts.

That’s all for today Family, until next time.
