Rod Wave has another No. 1 album to add to his growing list of chart achievements. The Florida rapper’s seventh studio album, Don’t Look Down, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving him his fourth album to reach the top of the chart. The album earned 99,000 equivalent album units in the United States during its opening week, according to Luminate, with streaming accounting for the vast majority of its performance.
Released on August 28 through Alamo Records, Don’t Look Down arrived as Wave’s first full-length project since 2024’s Last Lap. That album opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, extending his streak of consecutive Top 10 albums. Now, Don’t Look Down has pushed him back to the top of the chart and added another major milestone to a career built around emotionally direct rap and R&B.
A Four-Time Chart Leader
Wave first reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with SoulFly in 2021. He followed that success with Beautiful Mind in 2022, then scored his third chart-topper with Nostalgia in 2023. Each of those albums debuted at No. 1, giving Wave three consecutive chart-topping studio albums before Last Lap broke the streak with its No. 2 debut.
Don’t Look Down brings that run back to the top. Its 99,000-unit opening includes 96,000 units from streaming, equivalent to 128.4 million on-demand official streams. Traditional album sales accounted for 2,000 units, while track-equivalent albums contributed another 1,000.
The numbers underline how strongly Wave’s audience continues to consume his music through streaming. The album’s performance also places him among a relatively small group of artists who have repeatedly reached the top of the Billboard 200 with recent releases.
A 24-Track Album Built for Streaming
Don’t Look Down is a 24-track project that runs for more than an hour. The album includes previously released songs such as “Piece of Your Love” and “Hustle,” alongside tracks including “I Am,” “Look At Me Momma,” “Feed The Streets,” “War Wounds,” “Lost And Insecure,” “Florida Boy,” and “Last Lap.”
Wave’s music has consistently connected rap and R&B, and the new album continues that approach. His vocals remain central throughout the project, with the tracklist moving between melodic performances and rap-focused songs.
The album also includes guest appearances from artists including Luv Von and Aimee Carty. “2017 (Streamer U)” features Carty, while “Mainstay” features Luv Von. The project closes with “Toast,” completing a track list that gives Wave plenty of room to explore the sound that has become closely associated with his catalog.
The release also arrived with multiple songs already familiar to listeners. “Piece of Your Love” was released in June, followed by “Hustle” in August. The two tracks helped establish the album’s rollout before the full project arrived.
The Next Chapter Starts on the Road
Wave is also taking Don’t Look Down to the stage. The Don’t Look Down Tour begins September 12 and includes 27 performances across North America. Fridayy is scheduled to join him as support throughout the tour, with stops planned in major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
The tour follows the release of an album that has already delivered one of the biggest chart moments of Wave’s career. For an artist whose previous album reached No. 2, returning to the top with his seventh studio album gives the new era an immediate commercial statement.
