A Queer-Led Compilation Redefining Bass Music

Not every music collective moves with the intention and impact of Bass n Babes, and that’s thanks to founder Abby Cooper. I met Abby—aka @itsbabykush—at Love Long Beach Festival back in 2023, where I first encountered the collective’s colorful, femme-forward energy. Since that initial encounter, Bass n Babes has grown beyond expectations, expanding its influence through inclusive, bass-centered events, community organizing, and a fierce mission to uplift gender diversity in electronic music.

Now, as Pride Month comes to a close, the crew has launched something major: Bass n Babes Records, an independent label bridging the gap between LGBTQ+ communities and bass music. And with a launch this powerful, there’s only one way to do it right—by dropping a compilation album that truly speaks for itself: Bass n Babes Vol. I (click here to pre-save).

No one else is doing it like them, and honestly, this is only the beginning.

Bass n Babes Records: Built for the Community

So you two met at Love Long Beach? Basically, yeah! Long Beach is easily the funkiest beach town in LA County, and it hosts the annual summer festival, Love Long Beach. It was shortly after the sassy experimental bass-driven set thrown down by Kurei, that Abby Cooper approached me, glowing with excitement. She handed me a flyer to a Bass n Babes party while explaining—with a sparkle in her eyes—that it would be a queer, femme-forward, all-inclusive rave for the girls, gays, and theys. She described an immersive, expressive, and unapologetically colorful space. It felt revolutionary to witness women promoting and creating their own music events with such intention.

Since then, the collective has thrown iconic queer parties across both LA and the Bay Area. On top of that, they’ve made their mark on the biggest festival stages, from Babestock to The Untz Festival and Same Same But Different. And now, with the launch of their very own label, Bass n Babes Records, they’re ready to amplify their mission on an even louder frequency.

A Compilation Album That Hits Hard and Speaks Louder

With all this momentum, it only makes sense that Bass n Babes Vol. I would arrive to mark a new chapter. I had the chance to listen early, and let me tell you—this isn’t just a compilation; it’s a curated journey through some of the most exciting and personal sounds in underground bass music today.

Each track pushes genre boundaries while keeping things emotionally raw.

Whether you’re anticipating the next drop or waiting for a left-turn switch-up, the finesse each artist brings is unmatched. Throughout the compilation, there’s a sense that every contributor painted their own part of a shared canvas—it’s expressive, fearless, and entirely personal. Bass n Babes proves, track after track, how deeply intimate electronic music can be while remaining completely accessible and danceable.

The Closer: “Come Over” by NotLö, Nomi & Tess Iconic

Let’s talk about that final track—because it’s a moment. “come over” is a seductive, deeply textured sendoff that feels like a goodbye kiss from the hottest queer crew in bass music. With NotLö bringing her signature low-end bass production, the track rides smoothly into a saxophone-led groove by nomi, and finally, tess iconic enters with—yes—iconic vocals and unforgettable lyrics.

It’s one of those tracks that makes you wish the night would never end. The voicemail clips layered in are a standout detail—they ground the track in lived experience and emotion. If this is how the record ends, it’s clear they’re only setting the stage for what’s next. I’m so excited 😆
