Artist Spotlight: George Alice

Can we do an artist spotlight about someone with only one song, but is blowing up right now? Come on, let’s.

George Alice (known to her mates as Georgia) is a 16 year old (I know! What are we doing with our lives?!?) South Australian whose debut single Circles gives off a Lorde or Broods type vibe, mixed with beautiful lyrical depth.

It’s this track that helped her make the cover of the Front Left Spotify playlist for Australia/NZ – not bad for someone juggling homework alongside her music career! Even better, this track is the reason she was the 2019 winner of Triple J’s Unearthed High, a competition that sources the best in Australian high school talent, beating out hundreds of other entrants.

She’s been busking and writing music since she was 11, starting off in country and folk music before moving towards more pop oriented sounds. In a recent interview with PileRats, Alice regarded Angus and Julia Stone Vance Joy and DMA’s as key influences, along with Yaeji, Tkay Maizda and King Princess.

There’s no album out yet, but she’s regularly dropping new tunes on her Instagram, such as this beauty, entitled Wallflower:

Alice has been playing a number of small gigs across Adelaide, but is a headliner of the Adelaide leg of Laneway Festival 2020.

With a big single behind her and quality tracks being developed, her set is going to be one you shouldn’t miss.
