Mic Drop Music was created and founded by Jessica O’Connor in January of 2018. The idea for the website came to her like a vision while sitting in one of her college classes, and she worked on the project in secret for months. The site dropped with no warning and was warmly embraced with thousands of visitors who have remained loyal readers ever since.
What started as a personal blog for Jessica has evolved into a collective work of art. O’Connor began this project as a “one-man band”, if you will. She designed the website from scratch, conducted all interviews, took all photos, and edited her own videos. However, the brand grew quickly, and she used this momentum as an opportunity to help other young artists. She now oversees a staff of 10 writers, photographers, and videographers as Editor in Chief. Interest in becoming a part of the Mic Drop team has spread to six different states, and even a writer based in Australia. There is a very selective application process as she has a high standard for quality and passion.
In the blog’s 2+ years, staff members have attended as official press for 25+ music festivals both nationally and internationally. The website’s reach has extended to 88 countries worldwide. Despite the massive growth and accolades, the intention has remained the same from day one- a place for young creatives to voice their opinions, share new sounds, report the news free of bias, and for artists to share their work.
“Our mission is to create a positive space of honest media, inclusive of all genres of music, to be enjoyed by all kinds of people.“Jessica O’Connor
