Every summer in Los Angeles brings countless activities to spend sunny days and warm nights throughout the city. A favorite amongst many is catching a show at one of LA’s most iconic venues, The Hollywood Bowl.
On Sunday night, indie trio Cannons closed out their Afterglow tour at the Hollywood Bowl. The band has been on the road for the last several months promoting their fifth studio album Everything Glows.

On their fifth album Everything Glows Cannons gives fans their most personal work today. Over a decade into their career, the band continues to reinvent their dream pop, electronic sound. On recent projects, the trio’s sound had gotten groovier bringing in slick guitar riffs and synths nostalgic of the 80s. The band has never lost sight of the original sound that fans fell in love with. Each project builds on the sonic worlds they’ve meticulously created.
Cannons comprises lead singer Michelle Joy, lead guitarist Ryan Clapham and keyboardist and bassist Paul Davis. The three musicians met in the early 2010s via a craigslist ad. In their early days as a group, Cannons have crafted? lo-fi, synth pop, making them one to watch. In 2019, the band went viral with their hit song “Fire For You.” From their breakout moment during COVID, the band blew up almost overnight.
Afterglow marks Cannon’s most personal work to date. Several songs on the record like “Fool For You” and “Photographs” feel straight out of a diary. The intimate lyrics are accompanied by lush production and steady grooves. Afterglow is the follow up to 2023’s Fever Dream. This project possessed a moodier feel. This time around the band adopted a lighter, softer sound. The project has been received well amongst fans and critics.
The Los Angeles natives returned to their beloved hometown to close out their Afterglow tour.

As a part of KCRW’s Summer Nights concert series, Cannons closed out their “Afterglow Tour” at the Hollywood Bowl. Joining them on this co-headling tour was Canadian Electronic music duo Bob Moses. After an opening set from Oxis, it was time for the homecoming show Cannons had been dreaming of since the announcement.
This tour marked the triumphant return from the band’s bassist Paul Davis after undergoing an emergency brain surgery while on tour last spring. The seven date run of the co-headline tour brought the bands to major cities throughout the U.S. A night at the Bowl closed out an iconic run. “Loving You” opened up Cannon’s hour-long set. Throughout the night the band played songs from their entire catalog. They spent a moment feeling nostalgic when they told the crowd about their first show together in Burbank. The speech was followed by “Up All Night” one of the band’s first tracks. New songs from Afterglow were playing throughout the night like “Starlight,” “I Get Weak” and “Take Me To Tokyo.” It was the perfect way to spend the night at the Hollywood Bowl.
What’s next for the three piece? There are more shows for Cannons coming as they are gearing up for the “Everything Glows Tour.”
