Carly Rae Jepsen Announces Day and Night Tour

by Nathan Corrál

Earlier this week, global star Carly Rae Jepsen announced a brand new tour. Fresh off the release of her eighth studio album, Day and Night, the singer is gearing up to bring the project to life on the road. The singer’s latest project has been received with praise and rave reviews. This project is unlike anything Jepsen has done in the past getting fans excited for her tour.

Day and Night

Last month, Carly Rae Jepsen gave fans not one but two albums. The announcement came a few months prior with the lead single “On Wires.” Over the course of her career, Jepsen has earned the title of queen of B-sides. This time around, she decided to ditch the waiting game and give fans both albums at once.

Day and Night comes after an exciting time in the singer’s life. Jepsen recently welcomed her first born with her husband and collaborator, Cole M.GN.. In the music for “On Wires,” Jepsen’s baby bump can be seen. In an interview about the track and video, she explains how the song is about desiring one person, but the video shows her experiencing longing for motherhood and her career as an artist.

On Day, Jepsen finds herself gravitating to softer, more natural soundscapes. Songs like “WIld Child,” “Something Tragic” and “Soft” use acoustic guitars and delicate percussion. It’s a sound fans can expect from, but she also pushes herself and explores even more sonic territory.

The theme of love and heartbreak carries over onto the B-side, Night. “Never Let a Good Thing Die” opens the second album. The funky bass instantly grabs listeners attention until Jepsen’s crisp vocals come in. This is unlike anything we ever heard from her. “Don’t Leave Me On The Dancefloor” kicked off the rollout for the B-Sides. This single showcased the second album’s heavy use of synths, disco and dance inspired sounds.

While both albums contrast each other sonically, a coherence remains between both projects creating a seamless and rich listening experience. New songs, mean new shows. After All Things Go was canceled which Jepsen was set to appear, the singer held a pop up show in New York City.

Day and Night On The Road

On Monday, Carly Rae Jepsen announced the “Day and Night Tour” taking place in North America. The twenty seven date run begins on April 15th in Edmonton, Canada and concludes Montreal, Canada on May 29th. This is the singer’s biggest headline tour to date. She will play to massive crowds with shows taking place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York City.

While April can’t come sooner, Jepsen already has some trick up her sleeves before the tour starts. A double announcement came this week when Carly announced the B-side to Day and Night. Each album is getting four bonus tracks this Friday, October 8th.
