Music That Speaks To You
The best kind of music (IMO) is the kind that speaks to you. The kind of music that you can feel in your body, heart, and soul. With the abundance of tracks and sub-genres in the world, it can be a challenge to find songs that you truly connect with on a deeper level, versus tracks that obviously sound great and get your body movin’. Every song is different, everyone is different, and everyone has their own unique story. “I Just Found Out Who Lexa Gates Is“, will be linked below. It is my hope that in this playlist you may find music that speaks to you, as well.
Poetic, Somber, and Nostalgic
This was how I felt for a short while, until I stumbled upon a voice that seemed to speak directly to me, and I couldn’t get enough. That voice, my friends, is Lexa Gates. If I were to describe her sound in 3 words, I would say: poetic, somber, and nostalgic.
One somber night in the winter of last year, I was bitten by the Lexa Gates bug, and immediately dug out her entire discography. I made a playlist titled, “I just found out who Lexa Gates is”. I felt like a little kid again – Immediately taken back to my childhood core memories of learning how to create my first playlist and being so excited about it. My heart starts to race and my palms start to sweat as I turn into a downloading-demon, eager to collect all my favorite tracks into one list.

I Just Found Out Who Lexa Gates Is
This one is for the lonely, quiet, emotional, and maybe a little angry, girls that have a story to tell. I wanted the full Lexa Gates experience. I just found out who Lexa Gates was, and I needed to know more. Lexa Gates is a storyteller in her own league, who embodies what I feel, is the art of expression through music. The day I discovered her art, I couldn’t help but make a playlist only for her music.
This playlist does not consist of every single Lexa Gates song, but my favorites, and the ones that spoke to me.
Creative Expression on SoundCloud
From making music since her childhood years, to journeying through her creative expression on SoundCloud and defining her sound, I’d call this song a manifestation of her desires. Garnering the attention of SZA via an IG story post, Lexa Gates is a rising star who is very quickly making her way to the top.
Listen to: “I Can Fly”
Lyrics from, “I Can Fly”
“Let the smoke fill with room
I refuse to be doomed
I’m still not fully bloomed
Fuck what you had assumed
I’ma be someone soon
So soon”
SoundCloud is where it all begins for a lot of the legends in our playlists. It is one of the first music apps where I learned how to make playlists to share on Tumblr. One thing that is always certain about SoundCloud is that you will find all ranges of creative expression from artists. Because it is free, this app houses the foundations of your music career when you’re ballin’ on a budget.
I dug up one of Lexa Gates’s first releases on SoundCloud, and I am even more impressed than I was before. Her music is multi-layered, her lyrics are textured and her voice is unique. She’s been producing bangers since the beginning.
Listen to: “Moved On”
This rise to stardom is fated. It is remarkable what she’s done as an independent-artist, and now she’s finally receiving her much-deserved flowers. She is currently signed with Capitol Records and GoodTalk.
Order of Events
In “I just found out who Lexa Gates is”, you will find a large selection of the tracks added from her first album released on Spotify, Order of Events (album link). She’s been sharing her music online for several years, but 2020 is the year she began sharing on Spotify. I could listen to that entire album start to finish, no skips, and on repeat (it’s probably no surprise that I already have).
It’s her ability to remain authentic to her sound, for me. Whether it’s something she’s created 7 years ago, to now. Her authenticity is infectious and layered so beautifully within her art. Coming in strong with her love for simple piano melodies, poetic lyrics, and her unforgettable raspy raw voice, Lexa Gates allows listeners to enter her world, musically.
Listen to “8th St.” and honorable mention, “I’m All The Way In”.
Lexa Gates on Tour
Lexa Gates has just completed The Elite Vessel tour in Europe, visiting London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Since being signed to Capitol and Good Talk, Lexa Gates has had to adjust to creating her art at a different pace, but with a bright vision for the future. This release has already gained the attention of heavy-hitters in the industry, and Lexa has no plans to slow down.
When she returns to the U.S. in April, Lexa will go on a mini U.S. tour to Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA, and Orlando, FL. Aside from “I just found out who Lexa Gates is”, make sure you listen to The Elite Vessel as well.
