In her bold acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammys, Chappell Roan brought to light an age-old problem in the industry. She spoke about her own struggles and the struggles of artists who are just starting out in the industry.

Many new artists, like herself, struggle to afford healthcare and they aren’t provided insurance from the labels that make money off of their art. Roan emphasized how the financial burden of maintaining one’s health can be overwhelming, especially when an artist is expected to focus on their craft and perform at their best without the proper support.

The Midwest Princess then went on to start her own campaign, We Got You, to help struggling artists. The name of the campaign comes from a quote from her acceptance speech. “Labels, we got you, but do you got us?” Artists like Noah Kahan, Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX matched Roan’s $25,000 donation to the We Got You campaign.

Music Industry Mental Health Fund

Just two weeks after Chappell Roan’s vulnerable speech UMG and MHA joined forces to put into place the Music Industry Mental Health Fund. The two organizations have expanded upon their four-year long partnership to provide “comprehensive, high-quality outpatient mental health resources for music industry professionals nationwide.

The MHA also offers services like Dental care resources, group health services, individual/ family health insurance, vision care resources and senior care support. This collaborative effort marks a pivotal moment in addressing the long-standing lack of support for the mental health needs of those in the music business.

The fund provides crucial resources for artists, producers, engineers, roadies, and other essential professionals who often face high levels of stress and burnout. With this new plan, UMG and MHA are not only focusing on the need for mental health support but also helping to fix other health problems in the music industry, making sure that all artists and music workers can get the care they need to excel in their personal lives and careers.
