Happy first day of summer from the Mic Drop team! This week’s New Music Friday is stacked with the freshest tracks out there. What better way to celebrate the beginning of summer than with a dance collab from Kesha, Slayyter and Rose Gray. We also can’t get enough of the new HAIM album. We hope you love what we picked this week!
“ATTENTION!” by Kesha, Slayyter, Rose Gray
Just a few weeks out from their “Tits Out Tour,” Kesha, Slayyyter and Rose Gray have teamed up for a fire new dance track “ATTENTION!” The club ready beat and playful lyrics are perfect for the wild summer nights ahead. This song definitely caught our attention. Kesha crushes an anthem chorus, Slayyyter lays down hard bars on her verse and Rose Gray’s dreamy lyrics give the perfect pop feel to the track. This one will be on repeat all summer long. Make sure to grab your tickets to see all three of these stars on the same stage in one night on the “Tits Out Tour.”
“Hammer” by Lorde
We are one week out from Lorde’s long awaited fourth studio album Virgin. She has given us one final preview of the record before its release. “Hammer” is the opening track on Virgin. It’s the opening track to the record and starts with a wonky, revered vocal. Sonically, the track holds an anthemic feel like her song “Green Light.” The piano chords and space-y synth makes the track atmospheric. Lorde loves night life. Lyrically she explores a connection she found with someone on a night out in the city.
I Quit by HAIM
Speaking of a fourth album, HAIM dropped their brand new record, I Quit, today. The three sisters gave fans plenty of sneak peaks from the album with singles like “Relationships,” “Everybody’s trying to figure me out” and “Down to be wrong.” HAIM have perfected their ability to reinvent themselves on every new record while maintaining the signature HAIM sound. On I Quit, the band explores themes of breakups and rediscovery. Sonically, they branch out deeper into their folk soft rock indie sound. “Cry” is a standout track where the sisters indulge in a playful pop sound with sentimental lyrics. Luckily for all HAIM fans, they are hitting the road very soon on their “I Quit” tour.
“Popped” by Cherry Lee
“Popped” is the brand new EP from DJ and producer Cherry Lee. The opening track, “Marsha’s rocknroll” pays homage to trans icon Marsha P. Johnson. The song samples her poetry over a 90s Detroit techno sound. The EP fuses house and techno making fire tracks to blast at full volume. Sonically the EP is quite warehouse friendly and bound to make listeners dance. Cherry Lee collaborated with Detroit born DJ and producer Kittamami on their fresh house track 11:11. The team at Mic Drop can’t stress checking out this project enough.
“Heart Already Broken” by Crumb Pit and Amanda Joy
Dynamic duo, Crumb Pit have teamed up with Amanda Joy for a brand new track “Heart Already Broken.” Crumb Pit have made a name for themself for their skill of blending Drum and Bass, Trap and UK Garage to create a fresh sound. The duo brings the heat on “Heart Already Broken;” a moody, melodic track.
Happy Summer! We can’t wait for what drops next.
