May brings us one step closer to summer, and as the beloved season approaches our ears are filled with brand new tunes. It’s safe to say we haven’t found the “song of the summer” quite yet, but maybe it’s included in this week’s New Music Friday!
The Way I Love You by Jorja Smith
English R&B, singer songwriter Jorja Smith dabbles into an electric sound on her new song “The Way I Love You.” Over the years Smith has captivated listeners with her smooth, sultry vocals. As she has evolved as an artist, we have seen her explore sounds beyond R&B shining no matter what music she makes. “The Way I Love You” is the perfect example of the songwriters’ ability to bounce around from sound to sound while still possessing all the amazing traits and qualities fans know and love.
Gold Rush by Lucius
Grammy nominated indie-pop band Lucius have released their self-titled album. On their forth album, the band has returned to their roots hence self-titling their record. One song that stood out to the Mic Drop team in particular is “Gold Rush.” The track features a slick guitar over an alt rock drum. Vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig sing together gracefully over the instrumentals. If you like “Gold Rush,” we highly recommend checking out the rest of their record.

Picture this, you dancing in Ibiza. Behind you, a beautiful setting sun and a cool breeze. On “Sweet Love” he channels a great influence of reggae to create a soulful song. The timing of this release is perfect for summer. The brass and the soft guitar mesh together perfectly to get listeners into their feels. Burna Boy’s vocals shine along with the sweet harmonies echoing in the background. Talk about a love song.
CLINGY by Lights
“CLINGY” is the brand new single by singer, songwriter and producer Lights. Known for her electronic alt rock sound, Lights gives listeners a killer dancer track. The groovy bassline in the chorus joins forces with a slick guitar riff guaranteed to get you dancing. Lights’ vocals are dreamy and mysterious. “CLINGY” comes from the new Lights album A6 which was released today. The album is a perfect blend of indie, alt dance tracks.
Mirror (feat. Jessy Lanza & Yaeji) by BAMBII
Toronto-based DJ and producer BAMBII has enlisted Jessy Lanza and Yaeji for their new collaboration “Mirror.” The song comes ahead of her release of INFINITY CLUB ll out June 20th. BAMBII creates a hypnotic, electronic sound on “Mirror.” The vocals of Jessy Lanza and Yeaji make the song conversation-like. An accompanying music video directed by BAMBII herself came along with the track’s release.
Found A Light (Beale Street) by BADBADNOTGOOD and V.C.R.
BADBADNOTGOOD and V.C.R. have teamed up for a brand new song called “Found A Light (Beale Street).” This collaboration is a match made in heaven. V.C.R.’s smooth vocals gracefully sing over the gorgeous instrumentals produced by BADBADNOTGOOD. The song fuses jazz and soul with a contemporary take on the two genres. The artists pay tribute to Memphis and the cultural significance of Beale Street. It is safe to say the artists did the street street much justice with their tribute.
