by Nathan Corrál

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to the first New Music Friday of 2026! We are ringing in the year with a stacked line up of new tunes. This week we bring you a collab from Doechii and SZA, a new track from Joji, mgk and more! We hope you dig it!

“girl, get up.” Doechii and SZA

Before we said goodbye to 2025, Doechii and SZA dropped a surprise collab to say goodbye to the year. “girl, get up.” is a bold, honest song that feels straight out of a diary. The song is soft, subtle, yet sounds  a loud message. Doechii is a force, but on “girl, get up.” she showcases that force intimately. She raps about her life and personal experiences vividly. When SZA comes in, her vocals add a special something only she only has the power to do. In case you missed it, Cheyenne did a deep dive into this remarkable collab. Check it out here.

“LOVE YOU LESS” Joji

Next on our list is Joji’s new single “LOVE YOU LESS.” This is the fourth single from his upcoming album PISS IN THE WIND out February 6th. On “LOVE YOU LESS,” Joji explores the emotional push-and-pull in a romantic relationship. He reflects on his frustrations of giving so much and getting so little in return. Sonically, the track has a dreamy, melancholic indie pop vibe. The soft guitars and atmospheric production leans into the tracks introspective sentiment.

“times of my life” mgk

Today, mgk dropped a fan favorite unreleased track. “times of my life” was written about eight years ago with collaborator Travis Barker. Over the years, mgk played the song during shows, and the day has finally come for him to release it to fans. The song is nostalgic, emotional, reflecting on love and loss. The chorus focuses on the best times of the singer’s life and the person who was there with him during those times. He grieves and longs to be with them again. Sonically, mgk gives fans a classic pop, punk tear jerker. The simple guitar riff and soft drums will get you in your feels.

“Whippin That Wave” French Montana, Max B

Next in this week’s New Music Friday round up is a fresh collab from French Montana and Max B. “Whippin That Wave” sounds nostalgic ofclassic hip with a French Montana and Max B spin that makes it fresh. The song is undeniably cool and upbeat. The energy is infectious. Sonically, the pair channel a sound reminiscent of French Monata’s early days as an artist. There is nothing to not love about this one.

“Gut Punch” Nick Jonas

Closing out the first New Music Friday of 2026 is Nick Jonas’ brand new single “Gut Punch.” “Gut Punch.” is the lead single from his upcoming album Sunday Best out February 5th. Lyrically, Jonas gets personal facing his own self criticism and vulnerability. He asks himself if he is being the best version of himself in every aspect of his life. The track opens up softly and builds to an anthemic, pop heavy chorus. Jonas lets it all out on this one.

See you next week for another round of fresh tunes!
