Five Essential Songs for Your Spring Playlist

As of this week, we are officially in the spring season. Throw on your sundresses and corduroys, lay out your picnic blankets, and try to avoid all the pollen. You might be wondering, what are the best songs to soundtrack this majestic time? Well, don’t you fret, dear reader. I am here to tell you which songs will fit those spring vibes perfectly.

WHAT MAKES A SONG SPRING-Y?

Before we get into it, I wanted to set some ground rules regarding what makes a song right for spring. For one, we need these songs to be bright. The sun is finally peeking through the clouds, so we need songs that make you want to take in those rays. To be clear, there is a distinction between a “spring” song and a “summer” song. Even if both are bright and fun, there is something about this time of year that feels different. Spring is more for intimate grassy-field picnics, not the beach party dwellers of the summer. It is called ‘spring’ for a reason, so we want these songs to be bouncy. If you don’t feel the urge to bop your head, this song isn’t for the season. I hope that all makes sense as we dive in.

HONEY – LANCE REDEKER, AG CLUB, & SAM TRUTH

First, we have indie pop singer Lance Redeker with rap duo AG Club and constant collaborator Sam Truth for the sweet tune “Honey.” Like many on this list, this is a sweet little love song to soundtrack your sunny drives around town. Everyone sounds like they are having a blast on this song. Between the ‘sweet like honey’ shouts throughout the track and Lance’s washed-out dream-like vocals, you can’t go wrong with this song.

I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU – THE 1975

Next up, we have the iconic indie rock group The 1975 with their 2022 single “I’m In Love With You.” If the title wasn’t any indication, we have another love song on our hands. Unlike many other 1975 songs, this one has no underlying meaning. It is a straightforward song about being in love, and boy, does it sound like it. With the bright acoustic backing guitar and the cheery looping chorus, this song sounds like one that plays as you dance around the park with your significant other. Throw on your dancing shoes and give this one a spin.

FANTASY – MARIAH CAREY

Pop legend Mariah Carey’s 90s smash hit “Fantasy” takes the third spot on this list. I feel like this song should require next to no explanation. It’s “Fantasy.” By Mariah Carey. One of the brightest, poppiest, most fun, and carefree songs of the last decade. Who doesn’t know this song and how it gets everyone listening to jam out and smile? If you need more convincing, just listen to the song for yourself. Preferably do it while skipping through a field of daisies.

DANDELION EYES – PATRICK MARTIN

I hope you want more, as we have pop newcomer Patrick Martin with “Dandelion Eyes” coming second to last. Funnily enough, this song is both the newest on the list and the one that inspired it in the first place. This song came out a little over a month ago, and I have had it on repeat ever since. It is such an upbeat and catchy pop song that it’s hard not to keep playing it. With lyrics such as ‘dandelion eyes go wild in the sun,’ how could you not add this to your spring playlist?

REX ORANGE COUNTY – SUNFLOWER

Keeping with the flower theme for our final song, we have the indie-pop classic “Sunflower” by Rex Orange County. If you listen to only one song on this list, you should absolutely make it this one. The laidback rolling guitars, jazzy horns on the bridge and chorus, Rex’s sweet singing, and album cover make it the definition of spring. I could keep going, but I do not want this article to take up 20 more paragraphs. Go to the nearest field, lay on the grass, and throw this track on. You will thank me later.

I hope this article served your playlists well. If you can’t get enough of these recommendations, you can check out my personal spring playlist and Spotify’s ‘spring fling’ playlist. I have linked both at the end of this article and will see you next week. Ciao!
