Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover has officially made his return to music. The Swarm EP is a collaboration between Donald and singer-songwriter KIRBY, was released on Friday (March 17) via RCA Records. This release officially marks the revival of his musical alter ego. This project comes with naturally high anticipation as he is a 5-time Grammy-winner, Golden Globe recipient, and Emmy-winning actor, producer, and director. Slacker!
The six-song EP is released alongside Glover’s new Prime Video series Swarm. The series follows a young woman named Dre (played by Dominique Fishback) whose obsessed with a fictional pop star named Ni’jah (voiced by KIRBY.) This artist is eerily similar to Beyoncé.
Both Glover and Swarm director, Janine Nabers came up with the idea for the series. Nabers’ has also worked on the series Atlanta.
Fam Udeorji co-produced Swarm EP alongside Gambino and Michael Uzowuru, and the film also stars Chloe Bailey, Damson Idris, and others. Bold and original, Donald Glover and Janine Nabers’ new series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Friday. Swarm the series gave birth to tons of new music from Childish Gambino. This gave fans plenty to look forward to, as new music had been promised in the days building up to the launch.

The six-song EP features new music from Gambino. Alongside Gambino, it also features the fictitious singer Ni’jah (voiced by KIRBY) from the series.
KIRBY has such a versatile sound and songwriting ability; she was able to elevate and amplify every moment she was a part of. It’s been a pleasure to collaborate, to bring this story to life sonically and I couldn’t imagine what this would sound like without her involvement. – Glover said in a statement.
I fell in love with the idea of becoming the ‘Ni’jah’ character, What would she say in this scene? What would she sound like? It was liberating to go in and write & sing without any rules. There are people who are called ‘genius’ and people who truly are. After working with Donald, Michael, Fam & Riley I truly know the difference.”
KIRBY added.
Swarm, which debuted internationally at the opening of the 2023 SXSW in Austin, has kept a pervasive presence on the ground at the festival. The project is highly visible with logos for the show appearing on everything from transfer buses to hotels. The series, featuring the talents of Dominique Fishback, Chloe Bailey, Billie Eilish, and many others! You can currently stream the show on Prime Video.
