CHVRCHES Celebrates Ten Years of Music Success

Synth pop band, CHVRCHES are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe. The trio has seen immense success in the past decade since their debut in 2013. CHVRCHES have toured the world, played major festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, and have opened up for legends like Coldplay and Depeche Mode on tour. Their single “The Mother We Share” caught the attention of many after going viral on the internet. Four albums down the line, CHVRCHES is continuing their electronic pop legacy they started ten years ago.

WHO IS CHVRCHES?

Comprised of front woman Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty, CHVRCHES came together in Glasgow in 2011. Since their formation, the band quickly made a name for themself after releasing an indie classic, “The Mother We Share” which appeared on their 2013 debut record. Their first album combines heavy synth pop and subtle elements of EDM with influences from New Order and Joy Division. Fans were eager to see how the group would follow up on their second record.

In 2015 the band released, Every Open Eye, where they maintained the distinct sound they created yet elevated it to a whole other level. Their song “Bury It” features a collaboration with Hayley Williams of Paramore. Hit songs like “The Clearest Blue” showed listeners that CHVRCHES would not be going anywhere anytime soon. Love is Dead indulged deeper in the realm of pop but it did not stray away from the signature synth sounds that fans know and love. Their latest project, Screen Violence was heavily influenced by horror films. Sonically, the album is darker and heavier giving us a fresh take on a goth pop sound. Robert Smith of The Cure appears on the track, “How to Not Drown.” With each album CHVRCHES has seen an increase in fans allowing them to play bigger venues everytime they tour. After all their success, the trio is taking a trip down memory lane to celebrate ten years since their debut.

DEEP CUTS AND NEVER BEFORE SEEN

On Friday CHVRCHES will be releasing The Bones of What You Believe ten year anniversary edition. This edition is fully remastered featuring unreleased tracks and live recordings. Since the band made this announcement, they have given fans sneak peaks with never before heard songs, “Manhattan” and “Talking In My Sleep.” At first listen with both tracks, it takes fans back to the band’s first few years of their career. The band has also taken to social media to release footage of their earliest performances as a trio. The Bones of What You Believe is a remarkable debut that should be celebrated to the fullest while we wait for CHVRCHES next project.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHVRCHES?

Not too long ago, CHVRCHES concluded their Screen Violence campaign opening up a number of shows from Coldplay. Getting right back on the road, lead singer, Lauren Mayberry, is currently on her first solo tour preparing to release her debut solo record. While fans don’t have a new record on their radar, they do have the tenth anniversary edition to look forward to.

With everything the group has achieved in their first decade, it’s safe to say the future looks bright. Let’s hope for another ten years of music. What’s your favorite song from The Bones of What You Believe?
