August has officially come to an end. This means that all the summer tours fans were excited about only a few months ago are on the road to conclusion. This summer was full of unforgettable shows and festivals. This weekend, Mic Drop Music bid farewell to summer with one final show. On Saturday night, pop artist, DJ and producer, Mothé (they/ them or she/her), played to a sold out crowd at The Love Song Bar in Downtown Los Angeles.
A Total Popstar and Rockstar
Over the last month, Mothé has been on the road in support of their brand new record Total Popstar. The tour’s grand finale took place this past weekend at The Love Song Bar. Initially the show was meant to take place at The Echo, but due to scheduling conflicts, a last minute venue change was made. As any good popstar does, Mothé adapted and brought a remarkable show to the heart of downtown LA. A venue change wasn’t the only unexpected twist in the tour. Earlier this week, the star’s tour bus was tragically broken into and robbed. Mothé didn’t let that stop them from closing out the tour and playing one hell of a show. Handled like a pro, they cemented themself as not only a popstar, but also a classic rockstar.

Total Popstar marks Mothé’s most sincere work to date. Themes of love, heartbreak and self discovery are present from start to finish. The album takes listener’s on the singer’s journey through night life, warehouse parties and hotel rooms. The introspective songwriting reflects the singer’s encounters with people they’ve had in club culture. Sonically, the album is very electro-pop heavy which perfectly fits the theme of being a popstar. Mothé clearly had a vision for the type of album they wanted to make, and they executed it extremely well. The title track and songs like “Your Orbit” contain cheeky lyrics with video game pop-like sounds. These tracks are fun, but we also see a heavy, club driven side lyrically and sonically on “Claw” and Obscene.”
Watching Mothé bring the songs they meticulously crafted, to life on stage, was truly a sight to see.
Center Stage
With only a days notice before the show, Mothé and their team came together to play an incredible, sold out show at The Love Song Bar. The room was full, shoulder to shoulder full of fans and friends waiting for the show to begin. The pop star’s set started full speed ahead. Mothé stunned in a black trench coat that later revealed a sequence, distressed shirt underneath; total popstar attire. It was an intimate show channeling the club inspired energy of the record. In my opinion, it was the perfect way to wrap up such an iconic tour.
