Yesterday, beloved indie rock band Florence + The Machine announced their sixth studio album, Everybody Scream. This record follows their critically acclaimed 2022 Dance Fever. Fans eagerly awaited an announcement after seeing the band’s social media profiles change pictures and update bios.
We are buzzing with excitement at this announcement and bringing you everything you need to know on the new record as well as the lead single and title track, “Everybody Scream.”
Just In Time For Spooky Season
If you are a fan of the band, you know that much of their identity is rooted in witch-y, gothic aesthetics, visuals and sounds. The new era already promises all that and more. The new record drops this October on Halloween. While we have to wait for the record in its entirety, I’m sure Florence will drop a handful of singles to gear us up for spooky season. In addition to Welch, Mark Bowens, James Ford and Aaron Dressner are credited as producers on the new project. This is a truly promising new era from the band.
Everybody Scream!
The lead single channels sounds reminiscent of the band’s earlier days back in their debut during the 2009 Lungs era. An ambient organ opens the track with angelic, layered vocals. All of a sudden, BOOM a heavy kick drum and thick bassline unleash the beast of a song. Chants are present all throughout the song. It gives the track a spell casting, haunting energy. Everything about it is absolutely perfect. In the background of the song, the signature harp sound fans love Florence for rings with heavy alt/ rock sound. The song concludes with the hypnotic chanting leaving listeners wanting more. Even the lyrics are spooky referencing spells, medicines, magic and mystery. Everything about this track is cohesive and creating a world of its own.
If you’ve ever seen Florence perform, you know it’s a ceremonial performance and this song fits in perfectly with the way she dominates the stage and commands massive audiences all over the world. Watching her dance on stage and in her music videos, it’s like she is overcome with this indescribable energy and force. The music takes over her, making it a sight to see.
Jaw Dropping Visuals
Along with the single, came a music video directed by Autumn de Wilde. The band’s sound and visuals are modern while also ruminating on a time long ago. Welch stuns in a bright red dress in an eerie countryside and is shortly joined by what look like witches. Once inside a candle lit room, Welch dances center stage for an audience. A haunting dance sequence breaks out along with the chorus sending chills down viewer’s spines.
Everytime Florence + The Machine announce a new record, a buzz and excitement like no other begins. Over their career they have become a festival staple with their unforgettable live shows. Each era comes meticulously crafted, allowing fans to live in intricate sonic worlds unlike any other.
Surely, they will bring this record to life on a world tour and festivals.
So what do you think of “Everybody Scream?” The new album is available to preorder and presave on all streaming platforms.
