Women in Music: Elaine Huang

While it’s no secret that the music industry continues to be male-dominated, I’ll always celebrate the moment when a woman shows up, shakes things up, and makes me pay attention. Women in music carry a certain je ne sais quoi—a creative instinct, emotional intelligence, and strength that fuels both innovation and community. Whether they’re producing, performing, or running the show behind the scenes, they elevate every corner of the industry.

This week, I had one of those moments. Introducing, Elaine Huang—founder of Neon Owl, full-blown music industry powerhouse, and all-around inspiration. She’s the type of leader who operates across every front: managing artists, curating events, building platforms, and creating opportunities. And the best part? She does it all with intention and heart.

Building Neon Owl From the Ground Up

One of the most authentic ways to break into the music industry is by being in the room. Whether you’re working the bar, checking VIPs, or holding down the production table—starting somewhere gets you somewhere. Elaine Huang did exactly that. Huang shares with Electric Hawk, “it was more of a blog and media outlet that talked about things that mattered and told stories that were beyond memes.” She leaned into the hustle of the early stages, but quickly realized she had a vision that extended far beyond music discovery, leading to giving back to charity and the music industry.

Neon Owl 10 Year Celebration at The Clevander

With her brother, Raymond, Elaine launched Neon Owl, a music platform rooted in connection, purpose, and real industry access. One of their earliest and most powerful initiatives? The Open Door Sessions (ODS)—a virtual and in-person experience designed to give emerging artists an entry point into the business. These sessions created space for collaboration, growth, and education through panels, workshops, songwriting circles, demo-listens, and more.

Over the course of ten years, Elaine and her team built a network—artists, fans, and industry professionals who stood behind her mission. After a decade of grassroots momentum and impact, Huang saw a new opportunity emerge.

The Birth of Neon Owl Records

With her community established and her reputation solidified, Huang took the next bold step: launching her own label. Neon Owl Records officially joined the music ecosystem, giving artists a trusted home for their releases, plus all the support and development that comes with it.

This isn’t just a place to drop tracks—it’s a launchpad. Artists who join the Neon Owl family aren’t just signed; they’re seen, supported, and integrated into a thriving creative network. From studio to stage, they’re given the space to grow, connect, and evolve. One of those success stories begins with Hidden Axis and Elaine Huang.

Hidden Axis x Elaine Huang: A Full-Circle Moment

The launch of Neon Owl Records kicked off with a huge moment: the debut single “Fallen Angel” by Hidden Axis & WISNER. The track itself feels like a sonic journey through darkness and light, genre-blending melodic bass with rock, dubstep, and even a stunning DnB switch. It’s haunting and ethereal at first, but quickly builds toward a powerful, bass-fueled climax. And that second drop? WISNER’s vocals absolutely tear through the mix.

But behind the music, there’s a deeper connection.

Before Hidden Axis became a rising name in electronic music, she wandered into one of Neon Owl’s virtual Open Door Sessions, curious and creatively driven. That’s where she met Elaine. From that first encounter, something clicked. Elaine became her manager, mentor, sister, and guiding light in an industry that can often feel isolating.

As Hidden Axis writes on Instagram:

“…Elaine and I hit it off so well that she became one of those extremely rarely aligned relationships: a close friend, sister, mentor, and my manager all in one… She believed in me and saw in me what I struggled to see in myself.”

Under Huang’s guidance, Hidden Axis has toured with giants like ILLENIUM, The Chainsmokers, NURKO, and more. She’s released with top-tier labels like Ophelia and Heaven Sent. And now, she’s made history as the first release on Neon Owl Records—a full-circle moment that feels like destiny.

Representation: Women Being Amazing

Stories like this matter. Elaine Huang and Hidden Axis are creating space—and showing up as proof—that women belong everywhere in music: behind the decks, behind the scenes, and on the frontlines of change. They’re building systems that support equity, creativity, and culture, and it’s a joy to witness their evolution in real time.

While the industry has a long way to go in balancing representation, we’re lucky to witness women like Elaine leading the charge. She’s uplifting the next wave of artists, advocating for diversity, and making sure no one’s left out of the conversation. She’s doing what women do best—being amazing.
