On “Love Me Not” Lenae explores the complexities of a romantic relationship. While some of us might long for a new summer lover, others find themselves longing for a lover from a prior season.
“How Bad Do U Want Me” by Lady Gaga
Next on the list is “How Bad Do U Want Me” by Lady Gaga. The Grammy winning artist has been on a roll since her headline set at Coachella. She’s been on tour bringing her Mayhem Ball to some of the biggest crowds the world has ever seen. Sonically, the song pulls inspiration from a retro ‘80s sound. The dreamy synth featured on the song possesses a nostalgic summer feeling. Lyrically, Gaga explores the persona of her public and private self. It’s a classic Gaga song perfect for the summer.
“Show Me Love” by WizTheMC, bees & honey and Tyla
When thinking of artists who know how to perfectly soundtrack a season of heat and gorgeous weather, Tyla comes immediately to mind. Her collaboration “Show Me Love” with WizTheMC and bees & honey brings the heat with its groovy afro beats and worldly sound. It’s dreamy and smooth transporting listeners somewhere full of sunshine.
“Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” by ROLE MODEL
Spotify included ROLE MODEL’s “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” on their playlist. This song has a feel good, folk rock sound to it. It would be perfect at a BBQ or a picnic. Lyrically, its a perfect tune about unexpectedly falling in love. During summer, love is in the air. And what better way to tap into that feeling with ROLE MODEL?
“party 4 u” by Charli XCX
Coming in at number five is Charli XCX’s “party 4 u.” This one is for all the heartbroken. “party 4 u” has had a viral moment on TikTok in recent weeks. This track is a wild card of sorts. It was released five years ago. To celebrate the song’s anniversary last week, XCX released a music video for the track. Due to the attention the song has received, it would be hard for Spotify to exclude it from their playlist. “party 4 u” is anthemic and extremely relatable. Sonically, it’s perfect for a hot summer night in the city.
