This week’s New Music Friday features the long awaited comeback from Lorde as well as singles from HAIM, Tom Odell and more!
“What Was That” by Lorde
Lorde has finally made her grand return to music with her brand new single “What Was That.” To celebrate the release, the singer planned a meetup in Washington Square Park, NY for fans to listen to the song early. Sonically, the track calls elements of Lorde’s second studio album Melodrama. “What Was That” is vibrant, electric, full of synths creating the eccentric feeling of reminiscing over a previous lover.
“Don’t Let Me Go” by Tom Odell
Singer songwriter Tom Odell is back with a brand new “Don’t Let Me Go.” The song channels Thom Yorke and Oasis creating a beautiful love song. Odell’s song writing is truly impeccable. He has a true gift for storytelling through song and composition. Earlier this month, Tom announced the Don’t Let Me Go Tour. Mic Drop was fortunate enough to cover Odell’s last LA show as we cannot recommend it enough.
“Falling 4 U” by Pola & Bryson and MPH
“Falling 4 U” is the latest single from UK drum & bass duo Pola & Bryson, in collaboration with UK Garage producer MPH. The song features infectious rhythms and a groovy vibe that showcases the talent of both artists. The chemistry between the producers shines on “Falling 4 U.” All EDM lovers are guaranteed to add this gem to their music library.
“Down to be wrong” by HAIM
HAIM have released the second single “Down to be wrong” off their forthcoming album I Quit. To celebrate the new record, the trio played two intimate shows at LA’s The Bellwether. The track starts smooth with a steady beat until the chorus hits. “Down to be wrong” is a signature sounding breakup anthem, something HAIM has a niche for capturing such a feeling. I Quit comes out on June 20th.
“Tweaking Out” by Cydnee with a C
“Tweaking Out” is a dynamic new track by Los Angeles-based artist Cydnee with a C. The song features Cydnee’s signature style of fusing electronic beats with pop and R&B influences. The production gives the song a sort of space-y feel taking listeners to a whole other world.
“call on me” by GIOVANA and Austin Marc
“call on me” is the latest single from GIOVANNA and producer Austin Marc. This short but sweet tune is hyperpop gold. GIOVANNA and Marc’s talent merge together perfectly. “call on me” is the first taste of the upcoming project the two artists have created called “SNV2.”
“On My Way (featuring Children of Zeus)” by SHY FX
UK Jungle and drum & bass artist SHY FX has teamed up with Children of Zeus for a brand new collaboration “On My Way.” The song blends drum & bass with the perfect amount of soul. Children and Zues provide soulful, heartfelt vocals over a killer beat laid down by SHY FX. The song feels like a spin on early 2000’s R&B with drum and bass.
