What We’re Listening to Wednesdays 7

by Cheyenne Leitch

We’re seven editions deep into our weekly track dispatch, and the vibes just keep expanding. What we’re Listening to Wednesdays is less a playlist and more a snapshot; a glimpse into the shifting moods and obsessions of our Mic Drop team. Some tracks are pulsing and physical, others soft and strange but each one has earned its place on heavy rotation this week.

My Selects:

Track One – “Mad About You” – Son Little

This one’s all about that aching, bluesy soul. Son Little has a way of making heartbreak sound smooth, you can feel every word he’s singing without it ever getting too heavy. There’s a gritty guitar groove that just wraps around you, and it’s perfect for those moments when you’re in your feelings but don’t want to be too dramatic about it.

Track Two – “The Wheel” – SOHN

“The Wheel” is one of those songs that sneaks up on you. It starts off moody and atmospheric, then gradually pulls you in with these layered synths and soft vocals that feel like they’re coming from somewhere far away. It’s melancholic and a little hypnotic.

Track Three – “Rooster” – Annie Goodchild

This track is wild in the best way. Annie Goodchild’s voice comes in hot and fierce, and the whole song feels like it’s marching to the beat of its own drama. It’s got this theatrical energy, like if you threw a soul singer and an art-pop band into a blender.

Nathan’s Selects:

Track Four – “Love Cruise” – Dee Digs

“Love Cruise” is straight-up smooth. It’s got this warm, low-key house groove that just feels good, like you’re dancing under string lights somewhere on the water. It’s chill but dancey, vibey but not sleepy. One of those tracks that makes you wish it was summer all year long.

Track Five – “Spell” – Raveena

Raveena’s voice is basically a spell in itself. This track floats. There’s no other way to describe it. It’s dreamy and intimate, like it’s whispering secrets to you from across a candlelit room. You don’t just listen to this one; you sink into it.

Track Six – “Get on Down” – Never Dull

As soon as this kicks in, you know it’s going to be fun. Never Dull brings that vintage disco flair into a modern house framework, and the result is irresistible. It’s upbeat, funky, and full of bounce, basically built for spontaneous living room dance breaks.

Laneisha’s Selects:

Track Seven – “Drive Thru (Icee Red Edit)” – Tamae

This one’s for the after-after-party. It’s woozy and glitched-out in the best way, like you’re half-asleep in the back of an Uber but can still feel the bass. The edit takes something dreamy and gives it a weird, warped twist, perfect for when you want your music to feel just a little off-center.

Track Eight – “U Know” – Jend

“U Know” is gritty, punchy, and full of texture. It’s one of those club tracks that makes you scrunch your face up because the beat just goes. There’s a rawness to it that makes it super compelling, it’s not trying to be pretty, just real and rhythm-forward. Headphones recommended to catch all the weird little details.

Track Nine – “TECHNOVA” – TOWA TEI

Okay, “TECHNOVA” is just plain fun. It’s retro, futuristic, and a little bit bizarre, in the best possible way. Think bossa nova meets 90s techno with a sprinkle of space-age cartoon vibes. It shouldn’t work, but it totally does. It’s impossible not to smile when this one comes on.

Same time, same place next week? See ya then for some more hot tracks!
