Did you miss us last week? Because we missed you! Can’t believe we’ve already made it to round 5 of What We’re Listening to Wednesdays! The Mic Drop team is so excited to bring you another playlist of tracks we’ve been spinning all week – plus a few extra songs since we were MIA last week! We hope you find a track you love!
My Selects
Track One – “So Cool” – Dounia
This track is exactly what it says on the label, so cool. Dounia delivers confident, no-sweat swagger over a slick beat that makes you feel like the main character in your own coming-of-age movie. It’s got that windows-down, sunglasses-on energy we love to kick off a playlist with.
Track Two – “The Love Me or Die” – C.W. Stoneking
Okay, imagine if Tom Waits wandered into a 1920s New Orleans bar and picked up a banjo, that’s this song. It’s spooky, jazzy, and a little theatrical in the best way possible. C.W. Stoneking spins a bluesy tale that feels straight out of a ghost story and we’re totally here for it.
Track Three – “Moodna, Once With Grace” – Gus Dapperton
Dreamy and soft like a memory you’re not quite sure is real, Gus Dapperton’s “Moodna, Once With Grace” floats in on gentle synths and heartfelt lyrics. It’s the perfect soundtrack for staring out the window on a rainy day and pretending you’re in an indie film. (We’ve all done it.)
My Bonus Tracks
“back to friends” – sombr
“Espoir” – Darius
“Bridges” – Broods
Nathan’s Selects
“Track Four” – “One Wish” – Ravyn Lenae (feat. Childish Gambino)
Nathan brings us a little stardust with his first select. Ravyn Lenae’s voice is all sugar and silk, and Childish Gambino slips in with his signature cool to seal the deal. “One Wish” is dreamy R&B at its finest; romantic, spacey, and smooth as butter.
Track Five – “Firebird”- Common Saints
If you’ve got a desert road trip in your future (or just wish you did), throw “Firebird” on and let it take you there. It’s got that retro-soul-meets-psychedelic-rock vibe that makes everything feel golden and a little cinematic. Think desert sunsets, vinyl crackle, and good vibes only.
Track Six – “Nothing Gets Better Than This” – Devault and Lillyisthatyou
An instant mood booster. “Nothing Gets Better Than This” is all glittery synths and euphoric pop energy that makes you want to dance around your room at 2AM. Devault’s production is top-tier, and Lillyisthatyou brings the sass. It’s pure serotonin.
Laneisha’s Selects
Track Seven – “It’s The Lights That Make You Pretty” – Pépe
Disco ball energy, incoming. Laneisha’s first track is fun, a little cheeky, and totally made for dancing under flashing lights. Pépe taps into that classic club vibe with a wink – playful, a little mysterious, and 100% groove-worthy.
Track Eight – “No Place to Go” – Kwaku Asante
We’re wrapping things up with a slow jam that hits right in the feels. Kwaku Asante’s voice? Chef’s kiss. This one’s for late-night drives, solo deep thoughts, or just lying on your bed staring at the ceiling. Emotional, smooth, and beautifully honest.
Laneisha’s Bonus Tracks
“Pushing (Intro)” – MPH
“Show Me” – MPH
“Lemons” – piri & tommy
That’s all for this week’s sonic chaos! Hope you found at least one new obsession (or eight). Whether you’re dancing in your kitchen or just avoiding your responsibilities with headphones on, we fully support your choices. Catch you next Wednesday for more tracks we’ve been rinsing and repeating. Don’t say we never put you on. 😉
