Tennis Announce Final Album and Farwell Tour With New Single

by Nathan Corrál

The third single “12 Blown Tires” from the forthcoming Tennis album came with a bittersweet announcement. It is the last release fans will receive from the duo before their last studio album, Face Down In The Garden, comes out on April 12th.

The End of An Era

Tennis began their 24 year long journey as a band with their debut record Cape Dory in 2011. Husband, Patrick Riley and wife, Alaina Moore are the heart and soul of the love-child that is Tennis. Their music channels sounds from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. Their sense of fashion seamlessly breathes new life into looks reminiscent of the eras they draw their inspiration from.

Around the time of their fourth studio album, Yours Conditionally, Tennis had begun releasing music on their own indie label, Mutually Detrimental. It was their best record to date which would be followed by several more. Yours Conditionally took Tennis on stage at Coachella in 2017, making them a staple in the indie music community. As their fan base continued to grow, the duo embarked on a tour of intimate shows where they played their songs stripped down. Aliana and Patrick took the stage each night without their full band.

Their following record 2020 Swimmer received critical acclaim but was brought to a halt due to the pandemic. As a sense of “normalcy” resumed, Tennis was able to bring brand new songs to life on the road. Three years later, Tennis gave fans Pollen. On this record, the pair explored further sonically into new sounds and eras of music. Pollen took Tennis on their biggest tour to date allowing them to play some of the largest venues of their career across the U.S.

Now, the beloved duo is getting ready to give fans their seventh and final album: Face Down In The Garden.

12 Blown Tires

Last week, Tennis teased on Instagram a brand new single was coming. The night before the release, the band had finally gave fans some insight on what the song means.

“This song is a career retrospective – a cosmic purge in which we reflect on fifteen years of touring and the way it has shaped our relationship.”

“12 Blown” Tires is the sole reason why the band made their forthcoming record. On the morning of the song’s release, Tennis took to social media with a heartfelt message for their fans. They announced Faced Down In The Garden will be their final studio album. They feel they have said everything, done everything and have achieved everything they’ve wanted as a band. It is time for them to make space for other things and pursue other creative endeavors. It is the end of a remarkable era.

Farewell

While this news comes as bittersweet as ever, there is still time to catch the beloved indie band. If you have wanted to catch a Tennis show, now is your final chance. At the start of May, the band begins their farewell “Face Down In The Garden Tour.” They will play shows across the U.S. that you will not want to miss.
