Tame Impala Is Entering A Brand New Era

by Nathan Corrál

The king of psychedelic, electronic rock, Tame Impala, is teasing a brand new era of music. The genius behind the music, Kevin Parker, began hinting at new music all over social media a few weeks ago. Before that, Parker premiered the song in June during his DJ set at Primavera Barcelona. The clip immediately went viral causing fans to speculate when the song would officially have a release date.

Shortly after the commotion, the critically acclaimed artist dropped the track. It marked their first original release since 2020. The Slow Rush brought Tame Impala immense commercial success, taking them to the biggest stages across the world in addition to headlining some of the biggest music festivals out there. Known for their mindblowing visuals and light shows, they have become a staple on any festival lineup. Rest assured that Parker stayed busy collaborating and producing for other artists like Dua Lipa and her latest record Radical Optimism. We now know that a new Tame Impala record is coming in the near future.

Without a doubt, Tame Impala is gearing up to launch another iconic era bringing fresh sounds audiences have yet to hear. Only a few weeks ago, the band (unfinished?)

End Of Summer, Start Of A New Era

To launch the new era, Tame Impala released “End Of Summer.” The acid house inspired track took fans by surprise. Acid House was not exactly the direction we thought the band was going, but as usual he absolutely crushed it. Clocking in at a little over seven minutes, the track takes listeners on a sonic journey; a journey like never before. This single screams late night warehouse with its pulsating drums and ambient, trance influences. At one point, it feels like the song is never going to end.

Lyrically, fans get a closer look into the life of the mastermind. Evidently, the song holds the theme of longing with lyrics like “Just cause I don’t regret it / doesn’t mean I won’t think about it.” “End of Summer” is most certainly to dance to, meanwhile one that has the ability to pull on your heartstrings when listening closely to the lyrics.

What makes Tame Impala so special is the contrast between the lyricism and sound. Over the years, Parker has mastered the ability to craft some of the most intricate sounds while writing deeply introspective lyrics. On The Slow Rush, fans saw an intimate side to the artist’s life on tracks about his dad like “Posthumous Forgiveness” and his wife in “Instant Destiny.”

A stunning music video also came along with the song’s release. A split screen reveals a handful of images including Parker singing, dancing and in the studio. He’s also seen walking on the beach at dawn and rolling down a hill of sound. Aesthetically, it’s one of the most pleasing videos I’ve seen in a while. Looking back at previous Tame Impala music videos, this one also stands out visually and with the singer’s appearance on the camera.

So, are we getting another single?

What’s Next?

Today, the singer took to social media hinting at the next single. Parked posted an image with what looks like an old highschool photo with the word “LOSER” under it and the date 09/03. If you look at the song credits on streaming services, the writing credits are now given to “loser .” Is this an Easter egg? We’ll find out on September 3rd!
