It’s the weekend for lovers all around. Whether you’re staying in this weekend or celebrating the holiday, these are my recommendations for songs to get you in the mood. Music is such an integral part to an experience or memory and we can use it as a tool to take us back to an exact moment. Each of these songs have touched me in a particular way, and I wanted to share them with you. Featuring a mixture of soul, R&B, indie, and electronic music, these are my special selects for “Songs For Lovin’.”
“Let Me Take You Home”
First and foremost, this wouldn’t be called “Songs For Lovin'” without “Take You Home” by Slenderbodies. Slenderbodies was one of the indie groups I discovered in my youth and grew to love through adulthood. Take a look at their discography if you haven’t heard of them already. The California duo loves to play with wispy falsettos and funky guitars — if you’re into that kinda thing. 😉
Slenderbodies provides that sweet spot between funky and sexy — and does it very well.
“Puppy Love Is So Sweet”
Second, we have “Puppy Love” by Erika de Casier. Erika is new to me and I am late (oops!), but her angelic voice is one that deserves to be heard. She makes music that makes you feel like you’re floating on heart-filled clouds, while being surrounded by angel dust. Erika de Casier can be often found collaborating with some of your favorite electronic and R&B artists, like Shygirl, Blood Orange, and Mura Masa.
This track is one of my favorites.
Experimentation Is Good
In the ever-expanding world of music, many sub-genres of popular music come and go. Electronic music has grown and developed into some of the most experimental projects we have ever heard.
Tiedye Ky is one of those visionaries we can appreciate for always being authentic and showing that in their music.
In the artistry of genre-bending and experimenting, Tiedye Ky creates blends that evoke your emotions and allow you to connect deeply to the music. Check out, “Not 2 Late.”
Yes to OG Samples

Lastly, I bring you Jenevieve. “Baby Powder” has been replayed countless times in my home, my car, and my partner’s car (sorry ’bout it). If you’re a sucker for sweet vocals coupled with an OG ’80s sample, listen here.
Jenevieve uses a sample from Anri’s, “Last Summer Whisper”. Anri is one of Japan’s most influential songwriters, producers, and composers.
Listen to these selects and create new memories this Valentine’s Day / Weekend. While this set is called, “Songs For Lovin’,” that also applies to the individual. You!
What I mean by that is, sometimes we all need a little bit of love, and these songs have helped me in moments where I needed to give myself the most love.
Happy listening and try some self-lovin’ through music (if you haven’t already) with these “Songs For Lovin’.”
