New Music Friday: Wolf Alice, Bryson Tiller and More!

by Nathan Corrál

Happy Friday Mic Drop family. Don’t you just love summer? It’s hard to believe that the best season of the year is about half way over. However, the new tunes just keep coming. This week we have new tracks from Wolf Alice, Bryson Tiller, Night Tapes as well as albums from Ethel Cane, Jenevieve and Amaarae!

“White Horses” by Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice dropped the third single from their upcoming album The Clearing. “White Horses” starts softly with ambient guitars and delicate vocals. The song explodes when the chorus strikes. Sonically, the band mesh a folk, rock sound that reminds me of Fleetwood Mac.

“No Sharing (featuring Luh Tyler)” by Bryson Tiller

Bryson Tiller and Luh Tyler join forces on their brand new collab “No Promises.” On their song together, Tiller’s high, energetic flow blends smoothly with Luh’s soulful vocals. The production is bouncy and upbeat making the song’s energy infectious. “No Sharing” will be featured on Tiller’s upcoming double album Solace & The Vices.

Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You by Ethel Cain

Today, Ethel Cain released her highly anticipated record Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You. The ten track record runs a little over an hour. Cain built a sonic world for listeners to dive into and explore. This marks Cain’s first release since going independent. The record is rooted deep in the theme of fragility. Fragility takes multiple forms: fragility of love, the American Dream and life. Hazy is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of the album. It feels like a feverdream.

CRYSALIS by Jenevieve

R&B singer songwriter Jenevieve dropped her second record CRYSALIS. We hope you’re ready to dance because this album is full of complete bangers. “Partycrasher” is soulful and groovy. Jenevieve’s vocals are lush and soft. The harmonies in the chorus are the best part. “Hvn High” has a bassline so slick that it will grab your attention the second you hear it. Jeneive gets us in our feels on “Missing Persons.” She slows things down and pours her heart out on this gem. This record will be on repeat all weekend long. We promise you that CRYSALIS will definitely make it onto your “best albums of the year” list. In case you missed it, we deep dove into CRYSALIS ahead of its release. Read it here!

BLACKSTAR by Amaarae

BLACKSTAR is the highly anticipated album from Amaarae. She has a gift of fusing sounds and genres together that make her stand out. Her new record blends alt pop, R&B and Afrobeats. The sound on this album is joyful and liberating. Artists like PinkPantheres, Bree Runway, Charlie Wilson and more make appearances on BLACKSTAR. This is a perfect summer album to blast under the blazing sun.

“storm”  by Night Tapes

Indie pop trio Night Tapes are back with a fresh new single “storm.” The song holds a dreamy energy that makes it sound like it’s from another world. “storm” is a track to close your eyes to and get lost in the sonic world built by one of indie music’s most promising bands.
