New Music Friday: Lana Del Rey, Addison Rae and more

by Nathan Corrál

Festival season always seems to bring some of the best releases of the year. This week’s New Music Friday is full of fire tracks from Lana Del Rey, Addison Rae, Victoria Monet, DESTIN CONRAD and more.

“Bluebird” by Lana Del Rey

Just a week after the release of her highly anticipated single “Henry, come on,” Lana Del Rey is back with a fresh new song. “Bluebird” is the second single from the singer’s upcoming album The Right Person Will Stay. Del Rey is slated to make her Stagecoach debut next week. Fans and critics have speculated what the star’s set will sound like. With two new singles, fans now have an idea. The singer caused a commotion when she used the word “country” to describe the sound for the record. What Del Rey has given fans on these two singles is a folky, Americana sound. Her storytelling has reached new heights and her vocals are as angelic as ever. “Bluebird” consists of cinematic string arrangements and musical breaks guaranteed to make the heart ache.

“Headphones On” by Addison Rae

“Headphones On” is the fourth single from internet sensation Addiosn Rae’s debut album. Earlier last week, Rae started a buzz for the song when she posted a video of her rollerskating to a snippet of the track. Immediately a trend started of fans doing the same on social media. Lyrically, this is the most personal we’ve seen Rae get. Sonically, the song takes a new fresh direction that allows the song to coexist with her other singles perfectly. The singer follows up each single bolder and brighter on each release. This has built a great deal of anticipation for the star’s debut album.

Fans may have just been given a release date–on Sunday of Coachella weekend one, Rae joined Arca on stage to play the remix of her song “Acramarine.” At the end of the performance, Rae flashed the crowd with underwear that read “June 8th.” Addison Rae may be pop music’s new “it girl.”

“Offa Me” by Davido and Victoria Monet

Davido and Victoria Monet have joined forces on a brand new collab “Offa Me.” The afrobeat track is a match made in heaven that will be featured on Davido’s upcoming album 5ive. The two artists seamlessly blend Afro Beats with R&B to create a masterpiece of a song. The song is steamy and sensual perfect for the summertime and a pool party.

“KISSING IN PUBLIC” by DESTIN CONRAD

“KISSING IN PUBLIC” is the new single from Floridia born R&B singer DESTIN CONRAD. This single is the third from Conrad’s upcoming album LOVE ON DIGITAL out April 25th. “KISSING IN PUBLIC” has a slick beat reminiscent of an early 2000s Timbaland groove. Conrad’s vocals are smooth and sexy. The track is smooth, seductive and guaranteed to be on repeat after the first listen.

“Dream Machine” by Purple Disco Machine and Alison Goldfrapp

Purple Disco Machine has joined forces with Alison Goldfrapp on “Dream Machine.” Goldfrapp’s sultry vocals are perfectly complemented by Purple Disco Machine’s signature groove. The song’s pulsating synth set the perfect mood to dance and groove. This is a collab we never knew we needed. “Dream Machine” is reminiscent of an ‘80s dance track. It is a song that would play in a room full of sweaty people dancing and painted in fluorescent, ever-changing LED lights. This is a tune you will play all summer long.

“Wake Up” by Craig David

British singer Craig David has gone back to his garage roots on his brand new song “Wake Up.” This song is from David’s upcoming album Commitment out August 8th. “Wake Up” has a signature garage beat accompanied by David’s sultry vocals and hard bars that go crazy in each verse. It is a great dance track to get a crowd on their feet.

“Dolphin (feat. Shygirl)” by Eartheater

“Dolphin” is a dreamy, atmospheric track by Eartheater and Shygirl. The chemistry between the two experimental pop artists come together to truly make for a stunning song. Both artists have received critical acclaim for their production techniques and “Dolphin” is proof of that. The song features intricate sounds and styles start to finish making for a unique listening experience.
