Playing a venue as iconic as the Hollywood Palladium is a milestone in any artist’s career. Over the weekend I got to watch DJ longstoryshort make his Hollywood Palladium debut.

Since 2019, longstoryshort has consistently been cultivating a discography of electronic dance music. longstoryshort cleverly fuses multiple genres of music in each song, creating a fresh sound with every release. Because of this, he has played to huge crowds at major festivals such as EDC Las Vegas and Ultra Miami.  On Saturday night, longstoryshort played his biggest solo show to date.

High off the release of his latest single “UPUPUP,” longstoryshort experiments with the drum and bass genre. The high energy track takes control of the listener, making it impossible to not move along to the crazy bass line. “UPUPUP” is sonically unlike anything we have heard from longstroyshort, but he executes his experiment with these new sounds effortlessly.

As one of three openers for Habstrakt, longstoryshort had the responsibility of kicking off the energy for a night full of dj sets. An early set time at 9pm did not stop a large crowd from filling the room. Fans continued to trickle in as longstoryshort took the stage decorated with vintage TVs displaying colorful visuals. He started the set with stellar remixes of tracks by Calvin Harris and Duke Dumont. As I looked around the room, I saw countless hands in the air moving along to the music. Fans returned the same high energy that longstoryshort put into every minute of his set.

As his set continued, longstoryshort threw in some of his own crowd favorites like “On The Low” and “I Can Feel.” Everyone enthusiastically danced through the whole set. When it came time for longtsoryshort to play “UPUPUP,” the heavy bass bounced off the walls of the Palladium. I even caught a glimpse of one of the security guards getting into the music. After Saturday night, I have no doubt that longstoryshort will one day have his name on the marquee of the Hollywood Palladium for his own show.
