Korean indie rock band, The Rose, released their newest single, ‘Back To Me’ on July 20th, 2023. The band consists of four members, and they first formed in 2017 under J STAR ENTERTAINMENT in South Korea. They have two mini albums called Heal and Dawn. Despite being active for over 6 years, the group has only recently reached western audiences with ‘Back To Me’.
Compared to its K-Pop counterpart, Korean rock is not a genre that is well known worldwide. But with this new single being heavily promoted in the west, The Rose is on their way to international recognition. The song may also open listeners up to new groups and new genres outside of mainstream K-Pop groups.
Why Is ‘Back To Me’ So Popular?
‘Back To Me’ has all English lyrics and the style is reminiscent of classic modern rock. The singer describes how he makes his lover feel mostly negative emotions such as anger, sadness, and regret towards the relationship. But he admits that he was the toxic one and cannot undo what he did to his partner to make them give him a second chance. The style of the instrumentals and lyrics are simple and catchy, but the raspy vocals with occasional voice cracks are what makes the piece stand out.
As previously stated, Korean rock groups are not very well known in mainstream music culture. Because of this, The Rose is labeled as an indie band. Their discography shows that they have a good deal of songs in Korean. But ‘Back To Me’ has made a great impression on western audiences due to English lyrics and a rock style that many are familiar with.

Overall, The Rose is making great headway with their music. Their new single has gained over 15 million views on YouTube and there will be more music to come with their new album, DUAL, releasing on September 25, 2023.
