I would like to introduce you to DJ Lil Aarohi; a 9-year old scratch DJ from India who currently holds the Guinness World Record for Youngest Club DJ (Female).
Due to the growing surge of internet DJ’s, we have been introduced to a new world of audio-visual media. Here, the bounds of creativity do not exist, nor do the bounds of ambition. Typically, anyone can pick up a controller these days and learn how to spin, but it takes sincere commitment to learn scratching.
Put Your Scatching Skills To The Test
Scratching, sometimes called scrubbing, is a technique that originated in the 1980s from the New York legend, Grand Wizzard Theodore. Although, this technique is rooted in hip hop, as its evolved, it has been used in various styles of electronic music. There are worldwide competitions that host talent to put their scratching skills to the test. During these competitions, DJs are restricted to particular equipment intended for scratching, while competing against some of the best talent in the world.
This year, the DMC World DJ Championships will be held in Tokyo.
Fusing Culture and Talent
DJ Lil Aarohi has showcased her talent to the world through the internet. On Instagram you will find reels of her scratching her favorite songs. As the youngest club DJ in the world, she keeps busy by practicing with the music she loves.
In one of her recent videos, DJ Lil Aarohi mixes Bollywood beats with DNB tunes. Of course, there’s a little bit of scratching in there.
This young girl is phenomenal.
Influenced By Her Culture
Many of her renditions include Indian music influences. DJ Lil Aarohi has found a niche in this industry that allows her to express her love for her culture and different types of music, all in one. She fuses her cultural influences with pop culture and music in her art.
Recently, DJ Lil Aarohi collaborated with Cartoon Network India to create her own unique version of a drill mashup tune for Tom and Jerry’s “Milestone 85th Anniversary”. The young DJ combines influences from Indian music, UK Drill, and scratch techniques to create something entirely new.
Her title as the , “Youngest Club DJ in the World”, is much-deserved.
Holi Inspiration
Holi is a Hindu holiday that will be celebrated on Friday, this week (March 14, 2025). The holiday signifies the start of Spring, the victory of good over evil, and the love of religious deities. DJ Lil Aarohi combines her favorite Holi anthems, spreading her culture to the internet, while being a beacon of inspiration.
