Last month, Puerto Rican duo Buscabulla released their second studio album Se Amba Asi. This release comes five years after their debut album Regresa. While the pair have been releasing music for the past decade, their debut album was their time to shine. Regresa was met with critical acclaim and much buzz, but due to the global pandemic, the band was stuck, unable to tour and promote their record.
Flash forward a few years, Buscabulla finally gets their well deserved turn in the spotlight on their collab “Andrea” with Bad Bunny. “Andrea” brought the band a whirlwind of attention and success allowing them to tour bringing songs from their debut album to life on stage.
On their second album Regresa, Buscabulla gives fans an intimate glimpse on their relationship as lovers and bandmates.
Love On Display
Buscabulla comprises romantic partners Luis Alfredo Del Valle and Raquel Berrios. On their debut record, their pair reflected on their life in Puerto Rico before their move to New York. Se Amaba Asi dives deeper into the ups and downs of their relationship as their success continues to grow exponentially. Their song with Bad Bunny opened plenty of doors and avenues for the pair to explore. The success impacted their relationship, taking them on a rollercoaster of emotions and challenges. Se Amaba Asi gives listeners a first hand narrative of their experiences.
Se Amaba Asi is a conversation between two people who are completely and vulnerable of their feelings. Their relationship as artists, partners and parents take center stage. They portray every emotion, every feeling so beautifully in a dreamy soundscape only Buscabulla has the capability to do.
Our Favorite Tracks
Se Amaba Asi flows like a conversation that everyone longs to be a fly on the wall to hear. On the eleven track record, Buscabulla takes listeners on a tropical sonic journey.
“El Camino” opens the record with Berrios’ dreamy vocals and a soft acoustic guitar. As the song continues tension builds with dramatic synths. “El Camino” perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the record, opening the door to a beautiful sonic and lyrical journey.
Energy and passion continues to rise on “Incrédula.” Berriso sings about unexpected love and the confusion and joy that it brings. Her vocals begin soft and by the song’s end, she is belting out her heart truly capturing what the song is about.
One of my favorite moments on the record takes place on “Mortal.” Rarely do we hear Valle take lead on vocals. This detail makes the album all the more intimate, giving the body of work that conversation feel. Valle sings about the fleeing nature of life and the sorrow of impermanence. Buscabulla sonically creates dreamy, tropical worlds, but every once in a while, they welcome in a heavy guitar solo.
“De Lejito” beautifully closes out Se Amaba Asi. Flirtatious energy and seduction draw in listeners through the push and pull of tension and desire. Sonically the song is soft, Berriso’s vocals gorgeously layered singing over to a Caribbean style beat.
Live In L.A.
I was fortunate enough to see Buscabulla live back in 2023. One of my favorite aspects of watching romantic partners perform together on stage is the level of intimacy it gives the show. Valle stuns with his undeniable swagger. Berrios struts across the stage holding the attention of every fan in the room in the palm of her hand. Put that together and you have one heck of a show.
Mic Drop will be attending Buscabulla’s show tomorrow July 3rd at the Echo Plex in Los Angeles. Be sure to stay tuned for our full review of the show!
Se Amaba Asi is out now on all streaming platforms.
