Bedroom pop duo BETWEEN FRIENDS finally released their long-awaited debut album, I Love My Girl, She’s My Boy. Since 2017, brother and sister, Brandon and Savannah, have been releasing dreamy pop songs and EPs. Before the birth of BETWEEN FRIENDS, the siblings competed on America’s Got Talent. Since the release of their hit “affection” in 2018, fans have patiently waited for their first full length album.
EVERYTHING LEADING TO THE BIG DAY
Back in July, BETWEEN FRIENDS announced their debut album by revealing the cover art and teasing the single “Haircut.” After “Haircut” and the later release of “Bruise,” Brandon and Savannah gave fans a sneak peek at the tracklist. The record features collaborations with Bakar, Teezo Touchdown and EDEN.
I Love My Girl, She’s My Boy is full of pop-punk tracks reminiscent of young love. The alt-pop sounds on this project takes BETWEEN FRIENDS signature dream pop sound to another level. This mix of new sounds is balanced expertly with staying true to their original flavor fans know and love. Lyrically, Brandon and Savannah capture feelings of heartbreak and hopeless romanticism. The sibling’s voices come together to create angsty, anthemic choruses. Youthfulness and nostalgia are contagious feelings on every track, perfectly capturing the essence of falling in and out of love.

On “What’s Up” and “Smiley,” BETWEEN FRIENDS are clearly crushing on someone. The bubly tracks are sweet and catchy. On first listen, I was filled with the mushy feelings that come with having a crush. “Self Destruct” is an extremely relatable song expressing the self destructive tendencies we engage in. It’s a heart wrenching anthem for the broken-hearted. The closing track, “I love my girl, she’s my boy,” sonically takes a shift into a realm of techno, with soft spoken vocals. A perfect way to close the album, BETWEEN FRIENDS maintain alt pop elements from previous tracks, leaving listeners hopeful with potential new sounds to look forward to in the future.

At the start of October, BETWEEN FRIENDS will be hitting the road to perform this new music live on stage. Playing in twenty-four cities, the tour will run through November.
