Best Performances at the 2025 VMAs

by Nathan Corrál

Last night New York hosted the 2025 VMAs. As the year wraps up, the red carpets rollout and so do the endless list of nominees for numerous awards. This year was full of remarkable albums and unforgettable moments in pop culture. Over the years, the VMAs has seen some of the most iconic award show performances from artists like Lady Gaga to Britney Spears.

We at Mic Drop are filling you in on all of our favorite performances from last night’s award ceremony. You might want to take a seat first because the performers left us speechless.

Sabrina Carpenter Makes It Rain With “Tears”

Not only was Sabrina Carpenter an award winner last night, we at Mic Drop are giving her the crown for best performance. Fresh off the release of her brand new album, Man’s Best Friend, Carpenter gave her VMAs performance everything she had. After her performance at last year’s ceremony, fans and critics were curious how she would top two aliens kissing in the middle of a dance number. Rest assured, she topped last year’s performance. The stage design was a construction sight. On stage, the singer was joined by drag queens and dancers who held signs in solidarity with the trans community. Not only was the performance top tier, but Sabrina made sure she sent a message on that stage.

The best part of her performance was the dance break at the end. Rain fell from the ceiling soaking Carpenter and her dancers in a dance number that very much felt like an homage to Britney Spears. Everything from the choreography to the costumes echoed the greatness of previous VMA performances. This one was certainly one for the books.

Lola Young Gets Us “Messy” In Our Feels

After a breakout year, Lola Young took the VMA’s stage to perform her hit song “Messy.” Lola Young is truly a force to be reckoned with. Her unapologetic lyricism and raw, raspy vocals are unlike any other artist out there. Young shined on that stage as she sung her heart out. 2025 was a huge year for the singer, and she’s gearing up for an even bigger one ahead of the release of her new album, I’m Only F**king Myself

Sombr Gets Groovy From “12 to 12”

Speaking of breakout artists, Sombr celebrated his first VMA win and award show performance last night. He performed a medley of “Back to Friends” and his hit “12 to 12.” Sombr’s on stage presence is undeniably cool. He clearly loses himself in the music on stage. I’m certain this is the first of many unforgettable award show moments from Sombr.

Before we go, we can’t forget some honorable mentions from last night’s VMAs. The ceremony would be incomplete without the Vanguard award. This year it went to the one and only Mariah Carey who performed a gorgeous medley of hits like “We Belong Together,” “Heartbreaker” and a few others. Conan Gray also left viewers speechless with the high note he hit at the end of performing his song “Vodka Cranberry.”

Well, that’s another unforgettable year at the VMAs. Who was your favorite performer from last night?
