Who is EMPRESS OF?
Empress Of is the project of singer-songwriter and producer Lorely Rodriguez. The Los Angeles based artist debuted Empress Of back in 2012. The debut studio album from the singer, Me, came out in 2015, marking what would be the start of a remarkable career. Over the course of her journey, Rodriguez continually grows and innovates artistically and sonically. Singing in Spanglish, Empress Of beautifully channels influences from multiple genres to create a distinct sound. Every record indulges more and more into realms of experimental pop, R&B and electronic dance. Empress Of has several notable collaborations under belt with artists such as Blood Orange, Rina Sawayama, and Khalid.
I’m Your Empress Of is the last full length album released by the star. However, fans were not kept waiting too long when she released her Save Me EP in 2022. On this project, Rodriguez dove deeper into the world of dance music. It is a sound that has become more apparent in recent years. Empress Of carries that same ecstatic feeling on her latest single “Femenine.”

After releasing a very Y2K inspired track “Kiss Me” with Rina Sawayama, Empress Of has arguably saved her best release for the end of the year. “Femenine” is a sensual dance track that seamlessly captures a sweaty club scene. Empress Of cleverly layers her vocals and uses them as an instrument at the start of the track. The songwriter sings about wanting a “femenine” man, empowering herself while going crazy for him. The subject matter is just as cheeky as the vocals and production.
The artist vividly brings the song to life in the track’s accompanying music video. All throughout the video, Empress Of and the featured dancers are painted in fluorescent lights moving along sensually to the tracks hypnotic rhythm. The song and video are another addition to the star’s ability to continually innovate while continuing a curated and distinct artistic vision.
NEW YEAR NEW MUSIC
Empress Of has had quite the year opening shows for Carly Rae Jepsen and Rina Sawayama. In addition to this, the star has played sets at Outside Lands and Corona Capital. In recent months, Empress Of has confirmed that a new album will come next year. As always, fans can hope that a new album means a tour.
