Some of us aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to summer as fall quickly approaches. What will I miss most about the sunny season? Definitely the endless warm summer nights full of music and dancing. So, what better way to end the summer than by dancing in the middle of the ocean? Over the weekend, Dim Mak helped bring summer to a close with an epic boat party in Long Beach. The lineup featured headliner Henry Fong, with CHYL, OOKAY, MANICS, BENZI, FTHR FGR, and SANTO. The Dim Mak Afloat party was the place to be this weekend, and I was lucky enough to attend this special event at sea.
GET THE PARTY GOING
As the sun began to set and a slight rain began to fall, an eager crowd of EDM lovers remained. Manics got the party going on the top deck of the boat as passengers began making their way onto its hull. The set sparked dancing as the last bits of rain fell from the sky. Below deck, Santo’s set got people moving on a hot pink dance floor in a room illuminated by LED heart lamps. Both sets were the perfect way to start a night at sea.
MOTION OF THE OCEAN
OOKAY took over the party as the boat set sail. His electric set gave the crowd remixes of songs by Rhianna and Gorillaz. OOKAY celebrated the release of his new song with JSTJR, “ALL I WANNA DO,” a track with infectious energy that had everyone dancing. A golden sky peaking through the clouds served as a gorgeous backdrop to watch OOKAY play a killer set. Below deck, an endless party rocked the boat with a set from FTHR FGR. Benzi and Friends brought the downstairs party to a close as the boat made its way back to the dock.
LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
A crowded top deck was blessed by a high speed set by CHYL. She welcomed the night with spinning songs as the “DIM MAK AFLOAT” sign illuminated the crowd. Her bass heavy tracks had everyone bouncing the entire time. Henry Fong was the final act to take the stage at the LBC party. His remix of Icona Pop’s hit song “I Love It” sent the crowd into a dance frenzy. Henry’s set was everything and more. His was a huge crowd favorite.
As the night came to a close, Henry was joined behind the turntable with OOKAY and CHYL, making the most magical ending for an insane party. The three of them threw in popular tracks by Chris Lake and Fisher, making for a truly memorable night. The Dim Mak Afloat boat party ended summer with a bang.
