Voodoo Experience: A Musical Gumbo w/ Sautéed Bedroom Pop

With Halloween just a month away, the hype for fall music festivals is growing by the day. New Orleans hosts a cant miss festival every spooky season called, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience. Held in one of the most culturally diverse regions of the American South and the birthplace of Jazz itself- this festival brings it all to the table in one audibly delicious dish with influences from all around the country.

The diversity of the line-up is exciting to me because most festivals are so often genre based. At Voodoo there will be a wide range for music lovers of all varieties and styles. From electronic, to pop, and rock & roll Voodoo will take you on a satisfying musical journey worthy of remembering. However, in recent years across many other festivals as well, I have noticed a sharp increase in bedroom pop artists. So, to fuel the hype, here’s a couple of my favorite bedroom pop artists on the line-up!

Clairo

Grown from the seed of bedroom pop and fully blossomed into a true pop artist, Clairo reflects her 80s pop roots from Pretty Girl to her new album Immunity. Like many, “Pretty Girl” and “Flaming Hot Cheetos” were the first tracks of hers I had heard. To watch her transition from her lo-fi stage to now, with tracks like 4EVER and Bags, has been empowering to say the least. From Youtube to the big stage, Clairo soothes my soul with dreamy vocals and synth melodies that get me moving and grooving. Needless to say, Clairo is easily one of my most hyped artists at Voodoo.

Still Woozy

Often tagged with the bedroom pop label as well, Still Woozy emerged from the crowd of common people to bring us absolutely kaleidoscopic sounds. Admittedly, there have been times I’ve been pretty woozy listening to his music, but his sound keeps reality stitched together no matter how emotionally unstable you might be. When I first got into Still Woozy a couple years back he only had two tracks on Spotify. More recently, with his new Lately EP released, he continues to express his mind and soul in a style that is so distinct to none other than Still Woozy himself. If you haven’t heard of him check out his first hit Goodie Bag or any of the tracks on his new EP, you won’t be disappointed!
