The Top Songs of Summer 2019

Another Labor Day has come and gone, crossing our calendars off to the official end of summer. The sunshine season is always known delivering jams, from Drake’s “In my Feelings” last year, “Despacito” in 2017, or “One Dance” in 2016 (Drake keeps a summer jam in his back pocket) there is always one definite song that has dominated the summer.

This summer was no different with numerous songs worthy of the top spot, lets look at some of the options.

Tyler, the Creator – Earfquake

Tyler unlocks a different side of him we haven’t seen before, stripped down for everyone to see and even thought we don’t understand a word of it, Playboi Carti’s verse is mesmerizing.

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber – I Don’t Care

Ed Sheeran’s pen game is top tier and his voice is amazing, but he lets Bieber handle all the heavy lifting vocally here. The lyrics are simple and catchy with a beat anyone can catch a rhythm to, all the necessary ingredients for a hit song.

Lizzo – Truth Hurts

This song became a hit about two years after its initial release thanks to a placement on a movie soundtrack and a viral TikTok video. Even though I’ll jokingly groan whenever I hear the piano loop at the beginning (“Why men great ’til they gotta be great?” is probably one of the greatest opening lines ever) the song is infectious and the perfect female empowerment anthem.

Lil Nas X – “Old Town Road (Remix)” (Feat. Billy Ray Cyrus)

I mean it couldn’t have been any other song right? Summer technically lasts only 13 weeks and Old Town Road spent 17 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, Lil Nas X officially owned the summer.  Another song I was introduced to thanks to a TikTok video, the song is a genre blending masterpiece that you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing.
