The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees- Everything You Need to Know

The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees are here! On October 30th, the names of six iconic musical acts will be added to the most prestigious list in music. But we get it if you’ve only been listening to Beam Me Up Scotty for the past few days, so here’s a quick refresher. Tina Turner

  • Widely known as the Queen of Rock and Roll
  • Lead singer of American music duo Ike and Tina Turner
    • Songs like “River Deep- Mountain High” and “Proud Mary”
  • After they divorced in 1978, Tina started what was called one of the greatest comebacks in music history, with her 1984 solo album “Private Dancer”
    •  Songs like “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “Better Be Good to Me”
  • She also starred in the first Mad Max movie with Mel Gibson

The Go-Go’s

  • The most successful female rock band of all time
  • Their debut album Beauty and the Beat in 1981 was immensely popular and hit the #1 spot on Billboard
    • Songs like “Our Lips are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat”
  • Their 1984 album Talk Show was also very successful
    • Songs like “Head Over Heels” and “Turn To You”
  • They broke up for the first time in 1985 over drug problems and creative differences, and they came back together and broke up many times over the years
  • Lead Singer Belinda Carlisle also had a successful solo career with the song “Heaven is a Place on Earth”

Carole King

  • Singer-Songwriter that has written 118 songs that appeared on the Billboard Top 100
    • “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” for Aretha Franklin, 
    • “You’ve Got a Friend” for James Taylor
    • “Chains” which was recorded by the Beatles
  • Her second studio album Tapestry was a massive hit and stayed on the top of the charts for 15 weeks in 1971
    • Songs like “It’s Too Late” and “I Feel the Earth Move”
  • This is her second induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she was first inducted in 1990 as a songwriter

Jay-z

The Foo Fighters

  • American rock band formed in 1994 by Dave Grohl
    • Founded as a one man act after Dave’s Nirvana band member Kurt Cobain committed suicide
  • Their album The Color and the Shape in 1997 was their first hit
    • Songs like “Everlong” and “My Hero”
  • Had a couple more albums in the 90s and 2000s until their 2007 album Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace gave them the hit “The Pretender” and five Grammy nominations
  • The band is still active to this day, even performing at the inauguration of President Joe Biden

Todd Rundgren

  • American singer and guitarist well known for his unusual psychedelic music
  • Started out playing with bands in the late sixties, but went solo a few years later
  • His 1972 album Something/Anything? has been called one of the most significant albums of the 1970s
    • Had songs like “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light”
  • He is also considered a pioneer in interactive music distribution, with his 1994 album No World Order being released on CD-I
