MUSIC OPINIONS THAT ARE RED FLAG WORTHY

The red flag meme has been all over my feed the past week. It started going viral on Twitter and made it’s way to other social platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram. Accounts ranging from celebrities to notable brands took part in the fun.

But what is a “red flag”? I suppose it could most simply be defined as behaviors that’ll make you raise your eyebrows. We’ve all seen them in relationships, but unfortunately we tend to ignore them. Like when a guy says “I’m still friends with my ex🚩🚩🚩” or “I don’t go on my phone that often🚩🚩🚩“.

I wanted to take this idea and add a twist to the trend and relate it back to music. I knew if I heard some of these things, I’d be running in the other direction.

MUSIC RED FLAGS

“I don’t like boybands” 🚩🚩🚩

No one is too cool to like boy bands anymore. You can’t tell me you don’t want to scream “What Makes You Beautiful” in your car every once in a while.

“Donda > CLB” 🚩🚩🚩

If you like Kanye West, it’s a major red flag for me. Certified Lover Boy has so many more hits than Donda does. Sure Donda got a lot of hype, but it was short-lived. CLB reigns supreme in my mind.

“Apple Music is better than Spotify”🚩🚩🚩

This is something that’s not even up for debate. Just trying to use Apple Music makes my head hurt. Spotify is so much easier to use and to understand. I’ve stuck by Spotify for years and I have to stand true to it.

“I just listen to the radio”🚩🚩🚩

I think the general audience for a radio station are parents and children of those said parents. Or you left your aux cord at home. Radio shows are definitely on their way out. People would rather listen to the music they want on their own time. And if they want to hear people talking, they just turn on their favorite podcast instead.

I only listen to one genre of music 🚩🚩🚩

I feel like listening to more than just one type of music can open you up to worlds and ideas you wouldn’t have recognized without listening in the first place.

Hey, nobody is perfect! I might even have a musical red flag or two of my own. But it is super interesting to me what music can reveal about a person. Whenever the conversation of music taste comes up next, be sure to listen carefully.
