Kali Uchis Sends Love on “I Wish You Roses”

Kali Uchis has been booked and busy since the release of her 2020 album Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios). She’s been hinting at a new album since the release of “No Hay Ley” in the autumn. Uchis is set to perform at a number of festivals this year, including arguably the biggest of them all, Coachella. To prepare for the big year ahead, she released brand new music last Thursday in the form of the tune “I Wish You Roses.”

“I Wish You Roses,” arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day. The video and song take inspiration from the occasion’s glitzy aesthetics while expanding the range of love that the holiday recognizes. The tone of the pop song is steady, brooding, and vibey… In short, it has everything you could want and would be a great addition to any playlist.

This song is about being able to release people with love,” Uchis said in a statement. “It could be a friend, a lover, or someone else, but the point is to celebrate releasing people from your life without being resentful or bitter.

The video for “I Wish You Roses,” was directed by Cho Gi-Seok in South Korea. It features Uchis as a variety of flowers, wrapped in petals and blossoming among fields of roses. One of the most memorable sequences from the 1999 film “American Beauty” is recreated by Kali. As she sings, “I never thought I would be without you,” the vocalist is seen covered in rose petals.

The video’s message,

"With gorgeous flowers may come to the bee sting/But I wish you love, I hope you well/I wish you roses while you can still smell 'em," is akin to the faux-warning she offers in the song's chorus.

Uchis’s previous album, 2020’s Sin Miedo, was a pivotal release in her evolution as a Latin pop singer who sings nearly exclusively in Spanish. Isolation is the most recent album to be released in English. Since then, the album has generated other virally successful singles, such as “Just A Stranger,” which features Steve Lacy (who finally found mainstream success in 2017).

Uchis had a low-key 2022, releasing just one new song (‘NO HAY LEY’) and touring with Tyler, The Creator on his ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ tour. She did not reveal when either album or any other singles from them will be made available to the public.

What do you think of “i wish YOU ROSES”?

If you are parting ways with a friend, family member, or love partner, “I Wish You Roses” is most certainly a song you should listen to now. Uchis offers advice on how to break up with someone while still feeling love for them in your heart. The fact that Uchis will be making her comeback to the music world this year is really exciting to me since she has a lot of upcoming projects. Mic Drop Music is forward to hearing more of what Kali Uchis has in store for us.

In the later part of this year, Kali is scheduled to give performances at the Lollapalooza music festivals that will be held in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, in addition to the annual Coachella music festival. Additionally, a performance by Kali Uchis is scheduled to take place at the Estereo Picnic in Colombia. There are plenty of chances to catch this superstar worldwide this year! I can’t wait to watch her thrive, and I’m so happy Kali is finally “getting her flowers” as they say.
