Christmas in July: A Mid-Year Playlist

Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2019? No, I don’t know where the time has gone, but if there’s one thing I do know, it’s that the music released this year has been incredible.

To celebrate, I’ve got a gift for you all. I’ve concocted a playlist to showcase some of my personal favorite artist discoveries and releases from 2019 so far.
An early present for Christmas in July, perhaps? Sure, let’s go with that.

While I’m obviously a huge fan of every artist on this genre-spanning playlist, here are some stand-outs:

Still Woozy

Oakland native Sven Gamsky (AKA: Still Woozy) records all of the parts for his funk-infused music in his garage in California. In May of 2019, the artist released Lately, an impressive five-song EP stuffed with genre-bending tunes.

Omar Apollo

22-year-old Omar Apollo’s sound is a cocktail of funk, R&B and indie. Apollo is a first-generation Mexican-American, and is very vocal about the pride he has for his heritage and the influence it has on his music. He released a phenomenal EP in April called Friends, and even makes a guest appearance on Lately, the most recent EP of aforementioned artist Still Woozy.

Clairo

Clairo is a seriously talented singer/songwriter from Boston, Massachusetts. The lo-fi artist has garnered lots of attention since going viral in 2017 with her song “Pretty Girl.” Clairo is currently on tour with Khalid, and has even enlisted the help of Danielle Haim for her debut record. Clairo is due to release her debut album titled Immunity this August.

Without further ado, here is Christmas in July. Happy listening!
