Artist Spotlight: Coastals

Records1

Mic Drop’s newest addition to the Artist Spotlight series is a five-piece band hailing from the West-Coast of Florida. Coastals, has been playing shows and writing music in the Tampa Bay Area for a few years with their debut EP, Figure It Out, dropping back in August of 2017. Still to this day, Figure It Out is one of my favorite indie releases and I don’t go a day without playing it. It brings a genuine smile to my face every single time I listen to it and I have a good feeling it’ll do the same for you. The EP can be streamed on Apple Music and Spotify with the ability to purchase it on their Bandcamp.

Coastals’ current roster consists of Brendan Nagy on drums, Gabriel Martinez on bass and vocals, Tyler Freeman on lead vocals and backup guitar, and James Chouinard on lead guitar and vocals. Tyler Cole, who still actively writes and helps with marketing for the band, recently had to stop touring as he relocated to California. The band pushed out a new single, “Daisies” back in December which was a project they had been eagerly waiting to release. The single is available to stream on Apple Music and Spotify.

Coastals’ writing process often starts with James and Tyler crafting up an idea then running it by the entire band as they begin shaping it into a full piece. The entire group has been actively writing music behind the scenes as they will be releasing a single in the near future, with more to follow. Since their initial release in 2017, they have played alongside bands such as COIN, X Ambassadors, We The Kings, and The Hails. Locally, they’ve played at The Orpheum, Crowbar, Green Bench, The Blue Note, and Hooch & Hive. The band has some upcoming gigs in the Tampa Bay Area:
