Apply to become part of the Mic Drop Family

Calling All Writers, Photographers, and Videographers; The Mic Drop Family is Expanding

We’re Growing! Apply to Join the Mic Drop Family!

When I first started Mic Drop Music, it was mostly a resource for me to continue to build my reel, grow in the industry, and polish my skills. Thanks to social media, it has grown into a website that now runs Google Ads ($$$), receives thousands of viewers per month, and has been requested for press at five music festivals so far this season. I am so proud of what has been accomplished since I launched January 31st.

It has been a whirlwind to say the least. My inbox has been exploding with great interview opportunities, press releases, and even artists reaching out to me directly. As amazing as this feels, it’s also met with feeling a bit overwhelmed, and at times pressed to “just put out content.”

The rule of thumb for blogging they say is putting out something for your readers every 48 hours. For a personal blog this may not seem difficult. As a media news site, however, it usually takes longer to coordinate interviews, or find something really worth writing about. My goal for this site is to maintain quality over quantity. I would rather put out great interviews, photos, playlists, and articles when I feel inspired. Not just writing pieces to keep up with the “pace” of blogging.

The question I get asked most is “How did you get into this?”. The simple answer is I cold emailed alternativenation.net asking them if I could be a reporter. They took a chance on me in 2016 at Lollapalooza. I was sent to ask fan questions in the crowd, took a silly little video on my iPhone, and the rest is history. I’m forever grateful to them for giving me my start, and now I’d like to pay it forward and help others pursue their passions.

MIC DROP Going Forward

I made this website with the best intentions and the last thing I would ever want is for it to turn into something it’s not, just for fear of maintaining viewership. At this point in time, we have grown bigger than my own two hands can hold. Which has lead me to my decision to expand! I’m very excited to oversee a squad of talented creatives all over the country. This application is open to readers in all 50 states. My hope is for the Mic Drop family to cover all corners of the US, the more coverage the better! As much as I would love to drop everything and fly to festivals every weekend, it’s not exactly realistic. I need my team to help get our website to cover events all over.

Although the lifestyle may sound glamorous, do not get caught up in the hype. This is a position for experienced people passionate about music, writing, and or photography. Do not considering applying just to “get into festivals for free”. This website is my baby, and making the choice to share it with others is sacred. Although your name may be on the article or photo, the Mic Drop name is too. I am trusting the people chosen to continue the good name.

I have so many talented friends who are journalists, photographers, and videographers. And I’m truly thankful for anyone who takes the time to fill out the application. Putting yourself out there is always the hardest, most important step towards any goal. However, I will be keeping it totally professional and only choosing the best. I plan on keeping the team very small, likely only 5 or 6 new members to start. Please do not take this process personal, we will likely expand again.
